HDX software version 1.7a now up

Posted by: crackie on 12 July 2013

Hey guys,

HDX Software version 1.7a is now available on the naim support page.

I'll give it a go soon.

I am on my third Userve power supply. The two that failed where the old type, with a curvy line in the plastic molding. In both cases the voltage dropped.

I'm still miffed that Naim dispatched my US last Wednesday with the old software, and released the update on the very next It'sIt's

@HH

What's the big deal? Would your rather have them hold onto it another week? It's just a software update. Get over it. :-)

Harry, is the new DTC visually any different to the old version?
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I found and installed the new version no problem, but because I can't see any difference, I'm not sure if I really have got the new version installed!
I was specifically looking for the new suite of scan / transcoding options that were mentioned....

The latest Desktop Client is also included on the 1.7 Update Disc 2...

Hi Michael,

Yes it is...

If there is an error number given then that might assist in identifying the issue otherwise shutting down and restarting the unit a couple of times may resolve it - if not then please contact me or Steve Hopkins directly as per the contact details in the sticky at the top of all the forums and get direct assistance from us.

Cheers

If you are unable to create your own CDs then we can supply CDs if you contact us directly - although we do normally expect that users would create CDs we are having discs produced to send out to dealers and distributors.

...so what happens when you power down with handset then switch off at rear, then count to 10, then switch back on again?

(as any computer expert will tell you, the counting to 10 is important)

... does it resume the upgrade then go to the home screen?   If so, do the power down thing once more;  if not, call Naim tomorrow.

After turning on my unitiserve the naim logo flashes repeatedly very fast, touching the naim logo allows me to take it to standby. Then switch off at the rear, count to ten and switch back on and back to the same. I have contacted naim support who have said it could be the power supply being faulty, not sure about this as I can power up and down. Will contact dealer and naim tomorrow.

Hi - I guess you must have been in contact with Steve and not me. I don't know what the discussion with him was whereby he's suggested a PSU issue but there must have been something that led him down that path ... I'm sure he'll have you sorted.

Cheers

If you have only upgraded as far as the first disc (1.6g) then the new desktop client will complain that you aren't on the correct version and you are on an intermediate 1.6g build. Remaining on 1.6g is likely to give indeterminate results as you are not running a final software release at this point.

If you can contact us (if you haven't already done so) then we'll get you sorted.

For anyone else reading this thread - as I have said elsewhere it is important to have perspective. Updating *ANY* sort of device from *ANY* manufacturer carries a slight risk of issues however given the number of downloads of the updater over the last four days there have only been a handful of issues reported (with three on here).

Again, I would urge anyone who has issues to ensure that they contact me, Steve Hopkins or your dealer for assistance and we'll make sure that any issues are sorted out.

Cheers

It is visually the same. I found more options in the in the Tools tab sub menus, including the scheduled scan facility. . There is also an “encode to” right click menu on the albums listing which apparently enables you to flip albums between WAV and FLAC plus an “add to MP3 library”

I installed this last Saturday from the link on the Naim website. I had been running the 1.7 beta for some months but I didn't install the DTC. I also did the two CD upgrade on Saturday.

I just burnt ISO images and fed the discs in. Didn't realise the DTC was on CD2. When I went to the website for the FW download and saw the DTC linked, I just went for it.

I did this update over the weekend to my HDX. The process worked but I have to say that the Update notes contained with the updates do not detail the sequence of events correctly or in enough detail. In particular, they do not detail the correct number of reboots nor do they detail the stage where the Front panel displays the Message "System Programming Firmware Update in process " which happened twice on my HDX. I can therefore understand how some people might have got into difficulty running these updates.

There should be separate instructions for unitiserve over HDX, both different units and if you are not computer savvy makes it more difficult to sort out issues that arise.

Why can't these updates be done as a download over ethernet?

So where does this leave me Naim with no unit that works?

Hi Maze,

The update process for the UnitiServe, HDX and NS01 are all exactly the same except for (as Chris has pointed out) that there is no drawer on the UnitiServe.

I take your point and it was discussed about producing a single generic update document that referred to "Naim Music Server" rather than "HDX" but as the update instructions have referred to HDX since the original 1.5 instructions then they have remained as-is however I will make sure that your comments are taken into account.

If you have issues with your unit when updating it then contact us (as I keep saying) and we will sort it out - if you have contacted us and feel that we have been lax in our support of you in any issues then please email me directly (phil.harris@naimnet.com) and let me know what the problem is (and ideally who you have been speaking to so I can find out what's been discussed to date) and can get things moving forwards for you.

What it is important to remember is this forum is not "Naim Support" - it is a forum. Steve and I try to keep an eye on it but it is impossible for us to monitor every posting on here looking to see if it is someone that needs assistance, plus, providing assistance through a forum is not an effective way to do it.

There is a direct route to us if you need us - it's at the top of each forum here as a sticky. Steve and I are contactable directly via phone or email and either of us can assist you.

Cheers

Thanks for the kind reply, Phil.  I certainly could make provisions to burn the cd's but Naim's USA-based service pro has something he needs to send me this week anyway (my 555PS with new DR's; yay) so he'll kindly put the cd's in the box for me.  :-)

All is well here. Followed the directions in the pdf. Of course, for those that have had problems please look into them.

I have got the new version installed but I just couldnt tell because the changes are relatively subtle.

Well I received my new power supply today and so far no joy with getting my userve to work so it seems it's going to have to go back to naim for repair.

Please reboot your unit a couple of times - that may resolve the issue - and if not then we or your dealer can sort you out.

I have just checked the support mailbox and I believe that we have an email in there from you which is time stamped as 16:39 today - I haven't seen any others from the same email address either before or after then and I would expect that you will receive a reply to your query when Steve and I are back in the office in the morning.

Best Regards
