Kate Bush

What's your favourite KB disc, and does it change regularly like mine does?   You definitely need to be in the mood for each album.

Got a copy of The Dreaming recently after years of not having One.

I prefer it I digital form, but not surprising really as my playback is much improved on 15 years ago.

its an album that has a sweet spot volume.  For example, All the Love has those quiet atmospheric bits that can't be too loud or it ruins the effect.  I had forgotten what a great late night song this one is.  It just hangs there in the room. At times with this great atmosphere.

one thing about KBs albums, they truely can make you forget bout the Heidi and take you an a journey through her music and its eccentricities.

Heidi is hifi, blame that on Apple.

Aerial Side 2

Basically the only one that I consistently like.

The Kick Inside is the one I like most. Very original.

Lionheart is my favorite, followed closely by The Kick Inside.

The Kick Inside. It by no means stands alone but is IMO in the category of best debut album of all time. The others rise and fall, The Dreaming tending to be the next best admired in this house. I would cite them as all worth the time apart from Lionheart, which is in my all time list of worst second albums.

Bruce, I know what you mean. Although I love Kate Bush and am in awe of her talent and vision, I find at least a third of her work (especially the earlier stuff) completely unlistenable. That said, I have all her albums, and I have to say that I think Aerial is the best.

Consistently inventive is how I would describe her.

And that means I find it really hard to say there is a whole album I consistently like.

On every album there are tracks I adore and others which I almost loathe.

That's what makes Kate different to nearly every other artist for me.

Aerial (well at least disc 1) is one played more than average but Mrs. Bartolozzi what is all that about?  How to be invisible on the other hand I find simply brilliant.

Lionheart - can understand Harry's comment but Oh England My Lionheart while nostalgic definitely captures an England inhabited by my grandparents, that I recognise from my childhood which barely exists (if at all) any longer.

The Red Shoes might be her most variable album but contains some of her most heartfelt writing and tracks such as Constellation of the Heart and Moments of Pleasure that I've been going back to for 20 years and will probably keep going back to for the next 20 years.

If that isn't the mark of greatness, what is?

Nobody gone for '50 Words For Snow' then!

I always hated Peter Gabriel for doing that video wherein he basically just hugged Kate Bush for the entire song. Great idea Peter, bet that took ages to dawn on you....

I'm glad others find her music maddeningly inconsistent too, thought it was just me.

Gabriel, Byrne are part of and an endless number of people who tried to find a niche markek for post-band departure. I might be alone, but  I ended up listening to their original humble beginnings more than ever.

I did re-read that once or twice, mystified, before continuing!
