In tune with Detroit...

on a sad day in its seemingly terminal decline, what is your favourite music from the Motor City?

Motown first and foremost for me. All of it. Hard to know where to start even with Motown so will restrict it to sons and daughters of Detroit itself. If I absolutely had to pick one then:

For best overall output, although only technically from very nearby to Detroit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbzcdG5FK3c

For a bit of an outlier, still like this very eighties classic from Berry Gordy's son which was salvaged by none other than Michael Jackson with the chorus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bQwin3Vv0k

Finally BeBeWinans for gospel (remixed!):

Then there is some wondrous techno output:

DJ Rolando

Kenny Larkin

A lot of great rock'n'roll too.

Certainly Motown first. But also the MC5 and Iggy and the Stooges. Then of course the whole techno/house thing as you mentioned. Maybe add a little early Bob Seger in for fun. Of more recent vintage a big cheer for the White Stripes, one of my favorites.

These

The holy trinity of the White Stripes, Stooges and MC5.

Plus, pop queen Suzy Q

Derrick May

And some music from a small obscure indie label which somehow managed to have a couple of hits

All the rock n roll and Motown stuff is great. But great to hear Underground Resistance get a mention. Was listening to Sea Wolf and Final Frontier in the gym today
