segway not legal on pavements or roads

There has been a bit of discussion on the radio 2 today.

Seems that an electric buggy for disabled is allowed on pavements, but a segway is not.

one is 3 or 4 wheeled

the other 2 wheeled.

So why this decision.

Nobody mentioned that the inventor and designer was killed while riding his offroad version.

So where do push bikes with electric motors or petrol motors stand?

Seems the law needs a review as more people are using powered vehicles to travel on public footpaths and public roads.

You can hire them at Haldon forest just south of Exeter to travel the footpaths, but they are a bit scary fot walkers and dogs as they are very quiet and appear with little or no warning.

Did you see the piece in last years TdeF when a cameraman used one the film Chris Boarman's finish line bit? Hands free control!

that would be impressive.

I thought you had to hold the handlebars to control the speed.

Leaning forward to go forward

back to go back and

sideways  to turn

So that is impressive

How about banning things in Tescos?

I guess I'm all for encouraging mobility to a point but when you're stuck behind an aged crone in a pretty huge four wheeled battery car, with a 5 ft high hood, shopping basket and dog that's trying to manouvre around the hot cross bun bin and all you want is to get past and buy a packet of sausages...Why it drives me mad.

Perhaps if I had an off roader I could run over him?
