Football 2010/11 part 2

As the previous football thread seems to have evaporated with the forum upgrade, I thought that someone ought to start another.
Gives me a chance to swap banter with Jet down the road, and keep up to date with the pain of being an Ipswich fan. Just Spurs to overcome tomorrow, so plain sailing really.
Regards
Nic

My wife and I are going to the NFL Superbowl in Dallas, Texas on February 6. It's my first and, most likely, only superbowl I'll ever attend. We are very excited!

Develyn,
I should have been more specific. I'm talking about what you call soccer. Have a great time at the Superbowl though. I imagine tickets are pretty hard to come by, so well done for securing them.

Cheers Nic - I wondered what happened to the footy thread! - apart from the derbies (when we never turned up) this is turning out to be a canny season for we Mackems - it will be very interesting to see who Brucey will buy in the next few days having said goodbye to the ever loyal badge kissing Darren Bent (aka money grabbing, traitorous, illegitimate, disloyal, t**t) .....
I'd like Muntari, N'Zogbia and (in the short term) Fuller please Niall and if that happens the Europa League is surely a possibility?

Jet,
Must be nice to have that sort of cash available. If we sold our star striker, most of the cash would go back into Ashley's piggy bank, I suspect.
The league is really topsy turvy this year. A real shame that Blackpool could not hang onto their lead tonight, to keep it interesting.
Valiant effort by Ipswich in the cup game, but Arsenal were always going to keep coming at them, especially when Ipswich kept giving them the ball back.

Paper thin squad and we sell our star striker, without bringing anyone in! Genius

.....You must be psychic Nic! - now both of us have lost our England strikers!! ...I'm happy with our 2 new midfielders but we could do with Danny Welbeck getting fit double quick!

I see Chelsea have confirmed that the Torres deal is off - his girlfriend failed to agree personal terms with John Terry.

Doh! No one remembers it was the ex-girlfriend...Now if FT dumps his 'wife or girlfriend' (I was going to put 'wog' but I figured...) then JT may have an option on her?

What a comeback today. The first time I have ever heard Arsenal fans singing. They were pretty quiet at the end though. Astonishing that Arsene managed to miss Diaby's reaction for the sending off. Should have gone to specs savers methinks.

To all Spurs fans:welcome in S.Siro.
Don't know if Bale will be in the match(hope he will not),but I'll always thank him for the 3 goals against Intermilan

Fabio,
Looks like Spurs did pretty well tonight from the result! I do not think Gattuso would have taken Joe Jordan on when he was younger, unless he was very foolish. Perhaps he felt safer taking on a 60 year old?

Nic,
yes,it looks like...unfortunately!I wouldn't comment on Gattuso's personal battle:too stupid IMO.He will be out for many games now, maybe Allegri and the team will say thank to him!I regret for "Lo squalo" Joe Jordan,I remember him scoring in S.Siro:he would have deserved a better welcome back in our Stadium for sure.Maybe Gattuso didn't care...

I think that young Jack Wilshere was as good as Iniesta, Busquets or Xavi tonight. He just does not give the ball away.
Posted on: 16 February 2011 by Blueknowz
I'll Second that! close to Man of the Matchl
Posted on: 16 February 2011 by Bruce Woodhouse
If I were Wilshere's agent I'd be suggesting he takes Spanish classes. he would have fitted right into that Barca side, and that is a compliment!
I'm a casual footie watcher, mostly it just infuriates me but last night was great entertainment for all the right reasons. Wilshere seemed to have great poise and vision, really stood out for me. Paul Scholes in his youth came to mind.
Walcott seems to lack a football brain to me. He is quick and tricky but then what?
What struck me about Barcelona in posession was not just the passing but the movement, the willingness to just drift and dart short distances to collect the ball and re-distribute rather than just holding a position and waiting to receive.

Nice win for the Gunners but this will be one tough game on the road.
Posted on: 17 February 2011 by Chillkram
They could see it out, but I don't think they will. To get any win against this Barcelona side is a feat. They are amongst the best sides I have ever seen. They need to win a few more Champions Leagues to warrant the 'truly great' tag, but they certainly have the potential to be. The tika-taka football they play is a derivative of the 'total football' of the great Ajax side of the seventies and they are just as focussed on possession, use of space and a high pressing game. They are wonderful to watch
