TV Sound Enhancement
Posted by: JMB on 25 January 2011
I don't really have the space for a full blown home cinema system and because of the TV position within the room layout I can't practically use my HiFi system to enhance the TV sound. The TV is not between the speakers.
I am thinking of just improving the TV sound by using a sound bar or something similar like the Q Acoustics QTV2 speaker add on. The TV (Panasonic) has both RCA and optical connectors.
Has anyone improved their TV sound with the one of the Yamaha sound bars or the QTV2 ?? I am keener on improved clarity and volume rather than fancy surround sound effects.
Grateful for any advice.

Thanks James but don't think it would fit in front of the TV - price not too bad however.

Hi Mike,
When the Yamaha soundbar first came out I was doing a demo at a shop that had one.
Depending on the room symmetry you could get it to bounce sound off the walls to produc e faux surround sound. It was OK.
Ultimately the only way you'll know whether what it does suits you will be to go and have a demo, but I would DEFINITELY want to listen in the room where I was going to use it.
Of course if you believe in the pseudo-science of Mr Belt then having this near your REAL HiFi will destroy your sound, and guarantee you a place in purgatory!

M,
Thanks for the response. It is proving difficult to find a dealer where I can demo the options.
Interestingly the QTV2 includes two BMR (as in the Ovator) drivers but I have seen some criticism of their 'edgy' treble. The QTV2 is inexpensive for someone used to Naim prices so I might take a punt. Owning BMR speakers should earn some HiFi kudos.

I now have my QTV2 BMR speaker upgrade installed on my Panasonic. Definite sound upgrade - increased range, clarity and sound stage. These BMR speakers are good so it has encouraged me to try out some Ovators with my main system sometime.
So if you want Home Cinema Lite (perhaps a bit of a stretch to say 'Home Cinema') or just want to improve your TV sound and you can't use your main system try these add-on speakers.

Finite Elemente does a new wall mounted board called "Hohrizontal 51" (no typo ;-) with integrated speakers and iPod dock.
I haven't heard it, just found the info and thought it could be interesting to some of you...

I know this is the Naim Forum, but I have a Meridian F80, and you can find them on closeout now. You should check it out. I love mine.
