Mark Knopfler on BBC

Who saw Knopfler on the BEEB-4 last night

OK OK,  some would rather die than listen to Dire Straits,  some may say he is not the worlds best guitarist,  but ......
Personally I do like most of the DS material,  but whatever your tastes,  it cannot be denied that some of it is iconic.
Knopfler has been one of the most prolific British music contributors over 30 years writing & recording some of the most recognisable tracks in the world of popular music.  120 million albums is no small change in anyone's money, as is 267 accredited song titles.

The BBC prog covers his life pre-DS, post-DS, the various bands & other notable artists he has worked with, up to the most recent "Get Lucky" 80 plus gig world tour.  A lot of live video clips - mostly too short - not too much talking other than himself keeping it short & sweet & playing a few riffs & demo'ing finger techniques

Its on again Sunday at 23:30

Watched part of it but the wife wanted to watch something on another channel. The Later gig I didn't think was great. I still have my Dire Straits guitar metal badges that Knopfler gave me during their 2nd UK tour.

I was at his live concert in Berlin. He was touring after his first solo album went live.
It was evident that he loves to play music. Other artists act like they're on the clock and just try to fulfill their legal obligation. (Notably Sting).
He on the other hand went on for probably a good hour extra.

MK came across as a really nice ordinary bloke. I have fond memories of meeting the band after they played Lowestoft Pier (I kid you not!) just after the first (and superb) album came out.

I saw an interview years ago him saying we were playing small clubs, made the album and suddenly were were on 747s hopping around the world.

Lost touch with him till I bought my 82 from a guy who played his solo stuff as demo.  I bet he has a nice life.  He has a recording studio in it, invites people over to record and duet with like James Taylor and Emmylou.  Nice life.

I like early Dire Straits music and some of it was beautiful ( romeo and juliet, tunnel of love, on every street, to name but a few) but not so keen on the latter. I also like a lot of his solo stuff.

did you hear that Dire straits and chris rea are going to do something together?
