Who has manners on the street?

I walked around the centre of Leeds pushing a pram (infant travel system to give it current name), and it was very interesting to see who had the manners to let you past.

Almost everyone, you males included, the one group who did not either notice that I was pushing a pram, or give a damn were teenage girls.

Funny as they are the most likely to get comeuppance soonest.

I didn't encounter any pension aged women who from my past experience are the most aggressive and mannerless people in public, but it will be interesting to see how it goes when I do.

The top award goes to a 'Big Issue' seller, who when my partner had the pram, jumped from his selling point to help her over a few stairs. Humbling.

Hope she bought a copy from the vendor ?
Seriously though Jamie manners appear to becoming a outdated method of communication.
I mentioned on another post here of a recent visit to Japan and being awestruck by the manners of the general population, you know the simple things like giving up a seat on the tube for the elderly etc. It was humbling and since then I have tried to consciously behave in as mannerable a way as possible whenever possible. If I now am subjected to rudeness I also consciously accept that it is a failing of the other person... result my Karma is good !
By the way, I'm not suggesting that the overblown mannerisms of the Japanese are the way forward, for instance the giving up of a tube seat can also result in thanks being proffered for the rest of the journey and this gets pretty tedious !

She did buy a copy, and left the change.

As well as on the pavements, I find driving it is amazing how infantile people are. I like letting people out, I know when to happens to me I get a little lift, especially when it is on the way to work.

Obviously I don't let Audi, BMW and 4x4 drivers out, as they do not appear to realise that flashing or waving back is part of the deal.
