MUSIC STORES IN EASTERN CANADA?

Posted by: simon, but not simple on 24 July 2013

Off to Canada for 3 weeks with the family. Any recommended music stores I should visit in Toronto, Kingston, Montreal, Quebec or Ottawa?

Thanks.

I would say "Archambault musique" in Montreal and Quebec city.

Especially in Montreal on Ste-Catherine street.

In Montreal, most of the record stores (new and used) are clustered on Mont Royal avenue. Give yourself a few hours, starting with :

Aux 33 Tours (huge selection of new vinyl)

then work your way west along Mont Royal.

Also well worth checking out nearby is Beatnik (rue St-Denis):

The Archambault store mentioned by Serge is - unfortunately - a shadow of its former self. It has gone from three floors of music to one.

In Ottawa, Vertigo records is a must:

I've never shopped for records in Quebec city, there being just too many other attractions in the old part of the city. if you do go, try to reserve a room in the James Thompson house,  a B& B in a historic house right in the centre of the old city:

I'm not familiar with record stores in Toronto or Kingston, but perhaps some of our other members can chip in ... Dave, are you there?

Have fun exploring,

Jan

Pop in and see Manu at Plurison and take him a large bottle of good wine!
