Issues with uServe backups onto Synology nas

Maybe one of you Synology nas owners has an idea . . . I really think that this is a nas issue, not a uServe issue, but I'm not sure.

I can create a useable backup 'store' from an empty shared folder on my nas, and can run a full backup to it from the uServe. BUT, any time thereafter, the backup appears as "offline" or with an "error" status in OS X n-Serve, and cannot be used for further backups.  If I try to run another backup to it, say the next day, the uServe responds that the backup store is 'offline.'  But the nas is up and running, and the shared folder is fully browseable in OS X finder and in the Synology web manager / file manager software.  I just don't know why the uServe doesn't see it as available -- and not sure if it's a nas issue or a uServe issue.

I will see if I get a different result with the Windows DTC later today, but I am not optimistic.

This has been going on for a while now, and persisted after the update to uServe 1.7 software.

Any ideas??

Thanks Allen.  I've wondered whether it's a password or permissions issue, and to be honest it's not entirely clear to me still how the Synology does passwords.  But when I look at the permissions on the shared folders I've used as backups in the past, they do permit full read and write and modify to both "guest" and "admin."

But it may be something more basic, such as the overall username/password for the nas (?)  Notably, n-Serve for OS X does not seem to ever ask for that when setting up backups.  I definitely have never set up separate usernames or passwords for individual shared folders.
