Naim Label special offer - request for recommendations

Posted by: osprey on 29 July 2013

Since Naim Label is currenly giving 40% off everything available on their web site to celeberate the 40th anniversary (see the sticky) I decided to take an advantage of this generous offer. So far I have picked some of the works of Nick Cowley Trio, Phantom Limb and Fred Simon but there is still room for a couple of other items in my cart. Could anyone care to suggest some other interesting Naim Label artists/albums worthwhile to try? It can be under any genre. As always any recommendations or comments are most welcome. Thanks in advance!

Max Raptor is good if you like indie rock

Gavin, I listened to some YouTube samples and this sounds interesting. Thanks for the tip. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Antonio forcione is very good

Check out, Meet Me In London (192KHZ Super Hi Def Edition)

Antonio Forcione & Sabina Sciubba,

What a recording simply beautiful.

Posted on: 29 July 2013 by EAROTICA
I've just ordered that very album on vinyl and can't wait
Posted on: 29 July 2013 by osprey
Mike, very nice guitar playing indeed. Thanks for suggesting. Goonerdude, I only got a 24/96 board on my NU but I keep your reccomendation in mind for future reference.

Forcione is terrific, the recording quality is also superb. Talk about redundant, what am I saying, everything I've purchased is superb quality.

Can recommend Gwyneth Hebert - Clangers and Mash and the Allegri string quartet - Mozart quintets and Sabina Sciubba & Chris Anderson ( I don't even like jazz, do I?).

Got a bit carried away on Sunday and now awaiting 17 CDs and did one super high def download of Iona Brown. Even 'shrunk' to 24/96 it has a certain extra depth to it (Qute[1] might just have to be upgraded to a SuperUniti just on the strength of this download)

After listening on Quobuz (you can get 30 second clips even without subscribing) I'm frankly mesmerised by Phantom Limb, Ted Sirotas Rebel Souls and Dominic Miller & Neil Stacey. Chucked in a few others that frankly I couldn't refuse at the price.

Party on.

Andy

I should have recommended Gywneth Herbert (All The Ghosts) too!  I saw her play this live - just fantastic.  Clangers and Mash is a set of remixes of a few of these songs - good too.

Osprey,

It feels like Christmas. Missed delivery today so will have to pick up from the sorting office tomorrow. I suspect your vinyl will be with you quite quickly. Enjoy the downloads till then.

Gavin,

Would love to hear her live. Must keep any eye peeled for a tour.

I wonder if the sorting office is locked overnight?

Personally I really like Charlie Haden's 'Private Collection' and I notice that it has been remastered and packaged as a double album since I bought the two discs separately. Includes a 23 minute version of Ornette Colemam's 'Lonely Woman'. Sublime!

Cheers, CB

Clive, I looked the details of 'Private Collection' and it seems very interesting.  I might need to include that record in my next order — thanks for pointing this.

I received the delivery today so it was well inside the promised window of 5-10 days. Now I have plenty of new (to me) material to listen to during next few days. Looking forward to that. If anyone else is still planning to utilize Naim's special offer please keep in mind that the promo code is valid only until August 12th.

I probably wouldn't have taken the plunge if it wasn't for the 40% off, but after having given my purchases a good blast over the weekend, I'm so glad I did.

Meet Me in London 192/24 version, even though I can't play it (yet!), down sampled to 96/24 with dB Poweramp, sounds marvellous.

Phantom Limb-The Pines, didn't realise one of the Black Crowes guys produced it until I read the blurb? Loving this.

Ted Sirota - a couple of selected tracks, really great stuff.

Happy Birthday Naim!

Chris, yes, The Pines is excellent.  The promise shown on the first album has really blossomed on this one.

Another couple of Naim label releases well worth a listen are AM's Future Sons & Duaghters and Huey & The New Yorkers' Say It To My Face.

Have downloaded Gwyneth Herbert(all the Ghosts) and Phantom Limb (Pines), went back to give Sabina Sciubba & Chris Anderson a try and apparently you can only use the code once.

Just a heads up/ reminder.

@AndyPat

I looked for tour details on Gwynneth's website, and couldn't see any.  However, she is playing Warwick Arts Centre at the start of November, touring her latest album - so there must be a tour!

Thanks Gavin. I'll keep an eye out.

My plan was to buy a few extra albums over the weekend, but since I have bought one album this cannot Work out.

But I really enjoy Charlie Haden Private Collection, the one album I bought.

Osprey, thanks for taking a chance on my album Remember The River. My only regret is that we had to cut some tracks from the vinyl release because of time limitations. But please let us know what you think when you have the chance to listen.

If you do like it, I think you'd also enjoy its followup, Since Forever, although I don't think it was released on vinyl.

All the best,

Fred

Fred,

Bit of a privilege being able to write to the artist. I picked up Remember The River as part of my spending spree and have thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. So much so I may just have to pop back for Since Forever.   Many thanks for the music.

Like many others I have taken advantage of this great offer.  An eleventh hour order on Sunday saw the postman deliver 18 CDs this morning.  Excellent service considering this was the "normal" rather than "express " delivery.  As an added bonus all the CD cases were in perfect condition which a pleasant surprise when compared to some other suppliers. All ripped and now listening to the first one.  Hope I am around to reap the benefits of Naim's 50th birthday.

Andy, thanks for the very kind words; I'm so glad you're digging Remember The River. I think you'd also dig Since Forever which features the same musicians (Paul McCandless and Steve Rodby) who are on Remember The River, plus the fantastic drumming of Mark Walker who regularly plays with McCandless in the venerable group Oregon. In fact, I can almost guarantee that you'd dig it!

All the best,

Fred
