Naim Label special offer - request for recommendations

Posted by: osprey on 29 July 2013

Since Naim Label is currenly giving 40% off everything available on their web site to celeberate the 40th anniversary (see the sticky) I decided to take an advantage of this generous offer. So far I have picked some of the works of Nick Cowley Trio, Phantom Limb and Fred Simon but there is still room for a couple of other items in my cart. Could anyone care to suggest some other interesting Naim Label artists/albums worthwhile to try? It can be under any genre. As always any recommendations or comments are most welcome. Thanks in advance!

Still working my way through them but very enjoyable so far.

By the way, without wishing to appear a sycophant, Fred Simon's CD's are very good indeed!

Happy listening,

Vlad

Vlad, I'm grateful for your enthusiastic endorsement; really glad you're digging my music. I make my music to please myself first, but always with the hope that others will agree with me ... it's very gratifying that you do!

All the best,

Fred

Then your instincts must be right..........

In a previous post of yours, I drew the conclusion that you were no longer recording on the Naim label. If I have read correctly, then I wish you the best of luck with future recordings.

If it doesn't temp you to indiscretion, may I ask if artist's royalties suffer proportionately if their music recordings are retailed at a lower price?

Regards,

Vlad

Mike, good to hear that the delivery was quick. They promise 5-10 days outside UK so let's see how this target can be met. I hope that I'll receive the vinyls early next week. The downloads are already playing,

Osprey, thanks for taking a chance on my album Remember The River. My only regret is that we had to cut some tracks from the vinyl release because of time limitations. But please let us know what you think when you have the chance to listen.

If you do like it, I think you'd also enjoy its followup, Since Forever, although I don't think it was released on vinyl.

All the best,

Fred

Fred, thank you for taking time to comment my purchase. I was looking to buy some piano driven music (I like that a lot but for some reason there is not so much included in my collection yet) and I came across to an old All About Jazz review which was posted here in the forum by Anna Tooth earlier. That raised my interest to this record and decided to buy. I am glad that I did since I like it a lot. The general air of melancholy mentioned also in the review somehow seems to fit perfectly my current state of mind, my favourite track being “Miracle Enough”.

Thanks also for pointing that the track listing of vinyl release is slightly reduced compared to CD version. I might download the missing tracks later but it is quite likely that I in any case buy the follow up album some time in the near future (I am not limited to vinyl replay only although I prefer it ).

Do you have plans to release any new material any time soon?

Thanks, Vlad.

Naim hasn't asked for another album, and last I saw they are listing me among "alumni" in the jazz section. Of course, I'd be happy to record another for them if they were to ask.

As to your other question, while all record labels operate differently, in general royalties are discounted when the retail price is lowered.

All the best,

Fred

Thanks for asking. I have loads and loads of material ready to be recorded, several albuyms' worth at least, but currently no opportunity to do so. One can only hope.

Since Forever is very much a counterpart to Remember The River; same musicians, same composer, same general bittersweet air except with drums, which don't radically change the core vibe but just maybe widens the dynamic range of the music.

All the best,

Fred

That's a great shame - on both counts - the three albums of yours I got recently are very good. Please let us know about your future projects.
