George Duke- RIP

George Duke passed away at 67 in LA. Very influential keyboard player who jammed with numerous jazz, funk, and rock artists. RIP.

Just heard the news on NPR driving home from the park. Sad news indeed.

A key contributor to what I feel were the best bands Frank Zappa ever had...not to mention many other great recordings.

Sad news.  The Black Messiah (part 2) from Face The Music was one of my favourite pieces of music to test how well, a system could "stop and start" and time properly.  Surprising how few could really do it justice - even mega expensive systems, but a track where most Naim systems really excelled.

Sad news indeed. I first heard George Duke on his recording with the Jean-Luc Ponty Experience. I have followed his musical career ever since. George was a real influence on my keyboard playing and on several occasions I emailed him to ask about a chord progression, a phrase in a solo, a synthesizer sound ... I always received a reply.

Heaven is going to be a little bit more funky now

RIP George

Agree, very sad. I was introduced to George Duke somewhat recently when Doug Graham did a demo of the S400's in Edmonton at the Gramophone.

Doug listens to George Duke?

I wonder which cut he used?

I think I have most of his catalogue both CD and vinyl but stopped following him when his music became too smooth jazz.
