Hi All,

I have been trying to get back up going sporodically for a while.

I have a QNAP NAS 2019 with  a USB drive plugged into it.. The QNAP holds music that is mined by the serve and is set up as mirrored drives to back itself up.  So I want to back up the serve to a USB drive plugged into the NAS, rather than the internal drives within the NAS enclosure. itself.

I have set up like this..

and when trying to run a full back up end up with this..

It looks like the the full backup is trying to reference an existing file? rather than write a new one?

Im perplexed. Has enyone struck this before?

Thanks !

When i had a qnap i found the ability to do anything with that drive hard work.

In the qnap settings goto the user part with the shares. I think usb1 appears there, buttons on the right hand side allow you to set its permissions, make sure its accesible to everyone with read and write to guests and try again.

As i say though for my other uses the usb drives was a nightmare with qnap, you would be better setting up another share on the nas itself. The one part of usb that did work was internal back ups from the qnap.

I got rid of the qnap in the end, each new firmware release seemed to bodge it up further

Why don't you use the Qnap backup facility on the NAS itself? You can set it up as a scheduled incremental job, or have it running all the time in Realtime mode. That would probably be the simpliest. The ap is Backup Station, and there's a backup to external drive option...Cheers.
