Qute and Spotify
Posted by: Elbow on 12 August 2013
Sorry for what might be a dumb question, but I have a qute mk1 connected to my wireless router through ethernet (it couldn't ever get the qute to log into the network wirelessly). Can I play Spotify Premium through the qute, and if so, how do I do that? I am using n-Stream on my iPhone and the qute responds to it, so it 'sees' my phone on the network. So is there a way of streaming Spotify from my phone, or if not, from my laptop?
Thanks, and again, sorry if this is a total novice question...I'm a vinyl luddite at heart

You can't stream it 'directly.' You'll need another piece of hardware. Hook has recommended the Rocketfish for bluetooth streaming, and he uses it specifically for Spotify from his iPhone or iPad.
Believe you can also plug in your iphone/idevice into the USB port with a standard iphone cable - though not exactly sure on the qute. works on my ndac. also not sure about the new apple cable.
I continue to find Naim's lack of support for Spotify, MOG, Pandora and other popular streaming services puzzling. I suppose its a purist approach, and maybe they find it degrades something, but its seems to be high on anyone's list of features to look for in a streaming product. Adding bluetooth or airplay would also solve the problem.
The apple TV and airport express also works - and that would support airplay also, though, practically the same as bluetooth and limits you to streaming from apple devices.
Thanks guys, think I'll investigate the Rocketfish
Elbow/Mutterback,
This has been discussed before and the answer is that you can stream any of those services from a laptop/pc to a Qute.
Also discussed is the fact that the lack of full integration with Apple is primarily down to Apple constantly moving the goal posts.
On your PC set up which ever streaming service you want. On the Qute select PC, then pick your UPnP, select Advanced Search, PC Sound Capture, then appropriate output. You're now hooked up and can play from Spotify etc. The Qute also remembers this next time you select PC.

This would require installing and running a UPnP server on the PC, which is fine, but more than some folks want (vs accessing Spotify etc on an iPhone or iPad).
Thanks Bart - yup, the issue isn't that it can't be done. Its not too hard, actually, but still harder than it should be. The issue is why isn't it integrated as a part of the Naim streaming system (like internet radio.) Naim's competitors are all "there" already, particularly Linn.
Elbow - another way to do this is to get an Apple Airport Express or Apple TV box, and plug the digital out of that device into an input on your Qute.
If using an AE you configure it as a music player, and then from an iPod Touch / iPad you run the Spotify app and you will see the Airplay triangle in the "now playing" window; touch that and you can stream to the AE / TV.

I think you'll find it's a Toslink digital cable.
Depends on the device. My AE has a mini Toslink out. My Apple TV has the full size one. Both are a couple of years old so latest things may be different.
As mentioned on previous thread I use iPhone or iPad connectEd by USB to my superuniti.
selcting USB you have first to run music ipone music and then switch to spotify.
lately I have even been using SpotQueue and spotqremote apps in iPhone or iPad and controlling spotify from done device while the other feeds spotify to my superuniti. Runs fine
