Firmware 3.21 + Fault 36

Posted by: rjstaines on 13 August 2013

Anyone else done the 3.21 upgrade on an NDS and got the (dreaded) Fault 36 at the end of it ?  PC update app says completed OK, but NDS not happy

Now starting the "switch off, wait 30 minutes & power back on" fix.

updated to 3.21  from 3.16 no problems.

I find SQ changed over 3.16.

Sound more relaxed top end less gritty.

It seems I have been under a misunderstanding seek time can't work on n stream as it does not have a hard drive, It works on stored music am I right,

Let me clarify... seek to time works with n-stream, so 'no' you're wrong on that one... and 'yes' it works with stored music... (music that is stored on a hard drive and served to a streamer).

So, as I said... no and yes.

Was that helpful ?

Another NDS user here. I have noticed the Fault 36 is becoming more frequent on my machine. More to the point, the impact of the Fault 36 varies. At times I get digital hash rather than music. Currently though, I get beautiful music, but am unable to use the remote or the front screen of the NDS. It is REALLY annoying as I am power cycling the NDS on almost a daily basis. This is hardly conducive to the process of demoing a 555PS DR, which I am attempting at the moment. I wonder (1) what the 555 PS would sound like if it was left on for a week without interruption and (2) whether I want to shell out for the PS if I am going to have to power cycle it so regularly. Perhaps I should wait until the Fault 36 issue is resolved before I invest further in a streamer that regularly imitates a housebrick.

There is a fix for it - email Phil.Harris @ naimnet.com and let him know.  The fix doesn't compromise SQ in my opinion  ...and you'll then find the 555PS really works well with the NDS.

The more of us who let Phil know about fault36, the quicker Naim are going to fix it properly, so do take the time to email him

Thanks for the information on the fix. I was aware about it but as Naim are uncertain enough about it to not have released it, I am not keen to apply it to my NDS. I'm due to visit Naim in the near future so I'll take it up with them directly.
