Firmware 3.21 available NOW! Mac version too!!

Has anybody downloaded this yet? Comments?
Mac version but the hi-fi is in boxes for major decorating!!!
Anybody used a usb to serial converter? i use one from maplins which has worked well so far with a pc. Despite on the maplin website saying it is for windows, the link on their website has mac drivers, so I installed them. I think it has a prolific chipset.
when I opened the naim update package it doesn't list com ports like it used to. I'll mess around a bit more but probably resort to using a pc.
Tried some newer drivers of the prolific website and now the updater recognises the usb serial adapter but the updater still doesn't find my qute.
Think i'll call this a bad job and use a pc.

I need to update my Qute, so I had to order a usb to serial cable. I bought one on Amazon that uses the PL chipset -- hopefully I can use it with my Macbook Pro. I'll bring home my Lenovo laptop just in case.
Quick question:
3.21 documentation states "... requires USB B to USB mini cable ..."
My question is why? My computer doesn't have a USB B socket to stick it in anyway, it's got 6 USB A (4 rear, 2 front). Is there something special about a USB B socket that a USB A won't be able to be used to do updates?

Sounds like a typo or something. In the Mac documentation, page 6, it's a bit clearer. If the Naim product to be updated has a USB mini-B type connector, use it. If not, use the serial connector. I believe that's what's meant.
That's right. You need a USB to mini-B lead.
I will duck for cover in case i have missed this. Just back from Italy on me hols. Fab people, fab food and great wine. I will be back, once i have lost a load of weight!
It's because people who have paid out for an NDS cannot afford to give parties.
Finally! Excellent update, at last the NDX is working the way I want to.
Upgraded my UQ, took 6 minutes to complete
In the past though I have had issues upgrading the firmware but since I reserved the UQ IP on my DHCP server (a few versions ago) I haven't had any issues.
cheers
Interesting to note that the Multi room supplement attached to the sticky post on 3.21 includes the NDS as a supported streamer. I guess a problem emerged during testing that could not easily be resolved so Naim took the decision to disable the feature for the NDS and ship the firmware so we could all benefit from the other features.
I believe that's what's meant.
Thanks Bart & HH, I was getting tired of scrolling thru USB A to USB minis looking for the elusive USB B version!
All updated now, used a PC in the end. The new features are terrific, i was surprised when I got the qute that you couldn't seek within tracks, useful when listening to opera. As a bonus, I can now get playlists to work, for some reason before I had to use upnp compatibility mode.
Overall i'm pleased with this release. Can't think of anything that needs adding now.
All updated here.. I tried my wife's Mac Book Air.. No dice, tried pc laptop, all ok.. And I like the seek2time, and works well with Asset transcoding FLAC to WAV.
Good stuff.
PS used a multicast wifi enabled network using an Apple Airport Express... Uni cast limited wifi networks, which is most consumer grade ADSL broadband routers, don't.

Hmm, I'm not a big fan of fast forwarding (seek2time, whatever) and thus only tried it just now - Boing! It now resets the track to beginning, just like the original n-Stream/transcoding issue I had. What gives?! Must investigate...
I am listening to the UQ1 in v3.21 now, controlling with updated nStream. Is it just me or does it sound better? Seems to have more of what I liked when I first bought it and upgraded from 3.12 (which was unconvincing) to 3.17.
In any case, seek2time works fine with AIFF transcoded to wav. I wasted WAY too much time trying to get USB serial controller to work on my new Mac Mini, to no avail (downloaded drivers did not help). So I had to pull the UQ out of the system and take it upstairs to a PC that still has a Serial port. So, all is well.
Thank you Naim developers for your hard work. I look forward to having a second UQ in the family room...

The good news -- my Qute is updated, and seek2time works just fine. I am transcoding flac to wave from my uServe to the Qute.
The nonsense:
(1) Wanting to be an early adopter, I read the literature, saw that the Qute uses RS232, and ordered a cable. Two days later, the cable arrives, and I look at the back of my Qute and see that it has a USB port, NOT an RS232 port. Apparently newer Qutes (not the Qute 2) had the USB port. Doh. My fault for not looking at the back of my Qute, but shame on Naim for not writing the documentation inaccurately. Newer Qute 1's have usb ports apparently!
(2) My Lenovo laptop didn't take the necessary USB drivers the first time, unknown to me, leading to 'no device found.' On a lark, I installed them a second time, and they took. After that, and after figuring out which COM port it wanted to use, the install went perfectly smoothly.
Off to try my NDS now . . .

Actually it's good news for you, you actually own a Qute2, the 2 was put into production a while before announcement, so like me you have one that says it's a Qute but actually it's a Qute2 internally. This was to stop people demanding a 2 having just walked out the dealers with a 1 so to speak.. happy days!!

Nice, I like it!
So, essenstially Naim have provided a function (multiroom) for prople with multi boxes and to encourage others to buy more black boxes. Have not provided this feature on their "reference" NDS. They have not changed N-Stream navigation in any way from what I can see. Very disappointing.
And this took a long time to develop. Why?
Seek to time whilst might prove useful to some, essentially I want to listen to the music, not "scroll" through it. It' s not like I fast forward through a film to a particular point. I just want to watch the "whole" film!!!!
Thank you Naim....am I missing something here? Great sales upgrade, to sell more. Not sure what this gives me, an existing customer.
Rant over....for now!
Not sure if others with "Macs" experienced the same issue as me, I followed the install instructions letter for letter (Update NDX with USB mini cable) but the USB serial converter resolutely refused to show up under "Hardware on the Mac". However my wife, being a bit of a wizz on these things compared to me, typed a command in "Terminal" and the com port showed up/confirmed it was present. I then carried on with the install and the rest went without a hitch.

I updated my UnitiQute 1. Seek2time works on FLAC but not on AAC transcoded to WAV. When I move the slider, the song restarts from the beginning. Is anybody experiencing the same issue? I am running latest app release 3.3.6983 and Asset UPnP on Win 7.

Just want to say Bravo for the seek2time function - its a great plus for classical music where I can now appreciate specific passages over and over again - just like a could in the days when Classical CDs extensively used indexing - but now even more refined.
Progress - and allows me to get closer to my music again.

Really!?! I had a fleeting thought that this might be the case. I did purchase mine just a couple of weeks before the Qute 2 was announced, and I know mine was quite fresh from the factory.
Any other ways to verify this? I could always email Naim and ask as well. I'd not read this on the forum until your post, I think.
Anyone else use Twonky and had better luck?

Hi,
I usually use JRiver on my PC but I have a WD Live NAS which runs Twonky and am able to use S2T with that on my ND5XS (firmware 3.21, nstream 3.3)
