Football season 2013-2014

Posted by: mista h on 16 August 2013

As tomorrow the silly season starts all over again i thought i would start up this new thread so that followers of this stupidly rich game could have a say in anything Footie related. So if you want to have a moan or sing the praises about anything related would love to know about it.

My own moan is that lazy git Berbatov has carried on the way he ended last season. Watched him in our 2 home PSFs.He hardly broke sweat.

Also got to shake hands with our new Billionaire Chairman(Mr Khan),a friendly guy who appears to have trouble finding a barber shop

I don't know who plays for the Pompey Legends these days, HH, but your post has triggered one of my most treasured memories. When I was teenager the owner of the supermarket at which I had a Saturday job was into charitable event and had arranged a celebrity football match.  I was roped in to make up the numbers on the team who was meant to be taking on the celebrity team. Imagine my shock when I turned up and discovered that team was a Pompey Legends team draw from the Championship-winning side of 1950? Imagine my double shock when the legends discovered they were a player short and I was picked to make up their numbers?!!

And guess who on that team was the first to go down with cramp? Yes, I was so excited and keen to make an impression I ran around like a headless-chicken until I ran out of steam. But, hey, I'll never forget that day, and it didn't half impress my Dad when he eventually overcame his disbelief.

Alan Knight, Andy Awford, Mark Chamberlain, Shaun Gale, Lee Bradbury, Mark Kelly, Guy Butters, Kevin the Kit Man, Touchline Tony, Scott Green. That's ten, so maybe room for one more....

Aaah - Daily Mail and true in the same post - what do you think?

However there is an automatic cup scheme in place.

Which is what you agree as part of the season ticket - so I automatically - and very gratefully thank you very much  - get access for the Champions League game "creditted" to my Season Ticket / access card - but it is at an additional cost - a direct debit from my account that went out weeks ago.

If however I had failed to honour my agreement then the club would have been entitled to withdraw my facilities - ie cancel my Season Ticket / access card - for my breach of its terms.

So it is true then Chris?

Thanks HH.  Crocked knees put paid to my footie exploits many years ago I'm afraid (though I might still be able to outpace Guy Butters who was achingly slow in his prime!).  Are this lot true legends?  Definitely Knight and Mark Chamberlain, who had some wonderful skill.  Not sure about the others. Even 'Bradders', who we sold to Man City for several million would, I think, be regarded by most Pompey fans as hardworking but very average (Man City had more money than sense in those days, too).  Good to see them turning out, though. As you say, not sure many of today's Premiership would do the same.

Our Henry is really looking forward to it. They had the first team training on the school's new Astro a couple of weeks ago, which the students were all very excited about. I think it's great when teams do the community stuff.

Yep. Completely agree, HH. Round my way Palace have a good reputation for getting into the schools etc.  The Press seems to like to demonise any professional footballer who puts a foot wrong in their lives but gives very little attention to a lot of good charitable and community work that many do.

No - of course not  - just like the nonsense about prices for European games next season - we may be able just to concentrate on the league - so paper talk is mainly rubbish.

Most football news stories result from "journalists" talking to each other and re-inforcing their own bias - plus of course a huge degree of speculation to fill column inches.

Simple rule to keep you safe - unless Sir Alex says it - it probably isn't true

So what punishment should Pardew get?

A player doing that would get a minimum 3-match ban, which in theory ought to penalise the team. But banning him from the dug-out for a few games? Who suffers from that?  Of course, he's got from for unacceptable touch-line behaviour and his instant apologies feel a bit insincere now.

I suspect that a points deduction isn't within the rules so what's to done with him?

Just got back from the game. For a man that eats at Chapter One WTF are you doing at this Pie n Mash shop. Jesus man when was it last decorated,or even had a lick of paint?? I reckon this place last had a lick of paint about 50 years ago,and those wooden benches,i reckon trains had better seats back in the days when they had 3rd class. only good thing to come of it was the W/Spoons was only 5 mins walk away and i had a couple of pints of something that was 7.5%.Will i need a stomach pump tomorrow ?

Gotta go now as i need a drink.

I've only read about the incident but it sounds like he's gone way over the line this time. The FA will likely throw the book at him and the club may be forced to take action. It's not like it's his first touchline  incident. He's pushed a linesman and then there was the City match where he called Pellegrini a f'ing c..t. He's certainly has issues.

Probably the Premier League's best ever player I think that you mean.

Just seen the Pardew incident on MOTD. He wasn't going to hurt anyone with that but a clear sending off. What a muppet!  Newcastle have fined him £100k apparently.

Posted on: 02 March 2014 by ray davis

all blown out of proportion as usual, I like Pardew .I hope the 100k fine goes to a worthy charity.

...So ...back from Wembley where I reckon we gave it the veritable "go" ...great to see 1000's of mackems given the chance to share in a showpiece occasion - they undoubtably deserved it!

The excellent Poyet is shaping our future as a genuine footballing team but it will take a couple of seasons to get right.  ...And we may have to rebuild via the championship next season, but congrats to City - they turned it on second half and when they do that there's hardly a club side in the world who could live with them...great to watch unless your team's on the receiving end!
