Football season 2013-2014

Posted by: mista h on 16 August 2013

As tomorrow the silly season starts all over again i thought i would start up this new thread so that followers of this stupidly rich game could have a say in anything Footie related. So if you want to have a moan or sing the praises about anything related would love to know about it.

My own moan is that lazy git Berbatov has carried on the way he ended last season. Watched him in our 2 home PSFs.He hardly broke sweat.

Also got to shake hands with our new Billionaire Chairman(Mr Khan),a friendly guy who appears to have trouble finding a barber shop

Well, mista h, if Jol does go you will surely have breathed a sigh of relief to learn that the hapless McClaren is no longer unemployed having been signed by Derby. My commiserations to any Rams fans on the forum.

Son in law(Chelsea STH) has just phoned me,not sure if he was trying to cheer me up or just taking the p155.

His words to me were your only 3 points behind Man U in the league.

Maybe I need a new son in law.

Looks like McClaren is getting off to a good start - 4-1 down at home and it's only half time!

I know Mista,we've haven't beaten those mugs at their dump in 14 years. Very, very sweet result. Morrison's 55 yard dash with the ball for the third goal was astonishing.

Important result for you guys on Saturday.

I was a bit bummed to see the Seahawks lose their first game today, but was encouraged by their running game, esp given all the injuries and shuffling to the offensive line. The match-up of Andrew Luck vs Russell Wilson was exciting and both showed good poise and leadership for second-year QBs. Anyone else think this may have been a potential Super Bowl preview?

This is football we're talking about here, the world's game, not that daft stop-start version of rugby-with-razzmatazz you guys play

You say such kind words about Spurs Kevin!!

TBH  i call things as they are and we did not deserve to win. Worst ref i have seen in years,we should have had 3 pens and Stoke 2,he gave none,a total joke. Also Stoke should have had i player sent off 2 footed tackle and both feet off the ground, yet he stayed on the pitch.

Thing is, I used to quite like Spurs in a harmless, 'nother London team kind of way. The fact that they never won against us was an amusing diversion, especially with a couple of mates who were Spurs supporters. Perhaps that's down to the Chas 'n' Dave, Ardilles/Villa, Lineker, Hoddle days...

However, I've noticed that over the last few years the support has got a bit more hard nosed and dare I say aggressive? Perhaps that's come through their own higher expectations.  But whereas I used to see them as the dashing team in white who put up a spirited spectacle, now I'm not sorry to see them thumped 3-0!

Spuds fans are almost universally mocked for their hubris, cockiness and overinflated sense of their own "bigness" Jamie. Beating them, or seeing them lose, is almost as sweet as seeing us win.

As a teenager, Spurs used to be my second team and I'd sometimes take the train up to London and WHL and marvel at Ardiles, Ricky Villa, Hoddle and co. But I could never quite get the attitude of the local support who unless Spurs were winning handsomely seemed to be always whinging at their team. And then the era of the money-men at the top arrived. I think former manager Keith Birkenshaw captured things well when he reputedly said "there used to be a football club there".

This, from Knees Up Mother Brown, makes for amusing reading. It's a round-up of Spud views on yesterday's game:

Yeah - not every game though - I missed the Capital One Cup game against Liverpool.

I have now been banned from away games - this season so far I been to Anfield and the Etihad (Council House)

With Westham going to the Olympic stadium they need to up their game and spend. They need Carol back ASAP. Hoping it will be a nice open season.

Like to know the views of our Kevin on this. If i was a Wet Spam man and they wanted me to buy a Season ticket to sit(stand) behind a goal that had a running track round it i would give it a miss.

I have watched to many games abroad with R/Ts round the pitch and the view is Crapp.

R/Ts and football grounds IMO do not mix.

I have never liked the idea of the olympic stadium, I try to get to a few home games and love the atmosphere of Upton Park. Near the ground is nice and personnel, 50 yards back ?? does not appeal to me. Then if Westham do not fill the stadium or survive a premier season  and get relegated they will be a bit stuffed.

Well Mista

I have to say I'm not happy. My fellow season ticket holders are really excited about going to the OS. Even with the top tier removed, and lots of cheap tickets I just don't think we'll fill it. I'm also unconvinced about the retractable seating proposal. I would be happy to stay at the Boleyn and increase its capacity by, say 5,000 or 10,000, but I don't think that fits in with the Bongo Brothers' business plan.

If (it's still not a 100% done deal) we do go to the OS I will renew my season ticket and see how it goes.

If we get relegated... we're doomed!

Once upon a time a larger percentage of fans at games would have lived in council houses. Then the prawn sandwich brigade moved in with their braying sense of entitlement and things improved so much.

The Bongo Brothers want to sell it off for huge amounts of dosh and move us to the OS.

To be fair Mista, they were by far the better team. Despite what those two ****s on MOTD said, we put up a decent resistance but City were a class apart.

Unlike Spuds, who think they are better than most teams, City actually are.

had our chances, but i cant understand they have taken Carlton Cole on loan after selling him.

We didn't sell him Ray, his contract ran out.

I don't know why Sam didn't put the other Cole - Joe - on.
