Football season 2013-2014

Posted by: mista h on 16 August 2013

As tomorrow the silly season starts all over again i thought i would start up this new thread so that followers of this stupidly rich game could have a say in anything Footie related. So if you want to have a moan or sing the praises about anything related would love to know about it.

My own moan is that lazy git Berbatov has carried on the way he ended last season. Watched him in our 2 home PSFs.He hardly broke sweat.

Also got to shake hands with our new Billionaire Chairman(Mr Khan),a friendly guy who appears to have trouble finding a barber shop

Aw shucks. I'm truly sorry about that.  Ferguson was a plonker for recommending that retard in the first place.

So you've finally seen the light Chris.

Someone had to be Wilf McGuinness I suppose - but Wilf is sstill a United legend

I have never not seen the light - there has always been a "twinkle" in my eye

If Moyes does go now the timing will seem very odd.  Just 4 games to go and Man U have nothing to play for. I would have thought the decision was best made at the end of the season, giving the new guy all summer to sort out the squad for next season.  The only reason I can thing of for going now is that the Man U board have a big name successor lined up and want to secure him before some other club comes in. A high profile Dutchman perhaps? (and I don't mean Jol)

Really - I would have thought that that was a good reason to make a change if you are going to change - what's the point in waiting?

Chris - I'd advance two arguments. First, there's nothing to gain in that a new manager arrives and inherits a squad he had no role in creating and almost certainly will want to change so what value those four games? Second, Man U have earned a reputation of stability in management, which I imagine makes them more attractive to prospective new managers who know they will be given time (unlike at most other clubs). Why risk that reputation for the sake of four games? Better I think to be able to say 'we gave Moyes a whole season and didn't panic when results didn't go our way'. Reputations are hard earned and easily lost.  Just saying...

Independent at 10.35pm, "Moyes waits for ruthless sacking but....."

Maybe Man U's PR dept are waiting for the papers to go to bed before making the announcement.

Moyes finished higher in the league 8th than Ferguson in his first season 11th FA Cup knocked out in the 4th Round.
He hasn't had a chance, & it was obvious the premadonnas did not want to perform for him at Goodison! It was another 8 seasons before they won the League

Wolves are the Champions!

If it takes double relegation to win something, then so be it. But won something we have.

And I think Wolves might do quite well in the Championship.

The expected axe has fallen on Moyes. Giggs put in temporary charge and Van Gaal already linked with the job.

Nice to see Wolves on the way back. A big club with a great tradition.

Where to next for Moyes? He probably got an undeserved multi million pound pay off. I hope he invests it wisely as I can't see a top flight job coming his way for a while,

Moyes lives and breathes football every waking hour according to those who are close to him so I don't think it will be long before he's back in the game.  Perhaps he just didn't gel with the big egos at Man U.  I can see him picking up a job with a Premiership club who is struggling or a Championship club look to push to the Premiership. The managerial merry-go-round spins so fast these days there will many vacancies before the summer transfer window closes.  I hope he comes back strong. I think the game needs passionate men like him.

Martinez has shown in one season what Everton are capable of compared with Moyes lengthy tenure. Moyes main problem is that he seems to have no tactical nous.

Posted on: 22 April 2014 by MDS

I would quibble with that point, Steve. I think Martinez is an excellent manager (and seemingly a charming gentleman, too). But Everton did pretty well under Moyes. Given the club's resources he did better with them than say, Villa and Newcastle.

I for one could not stand the man......nasty peace of work, comes over as mista nice guy but he aint.

Best thing that could happen to the man would be for a load of fans to chuck him into the Manchester ship canal,or better still off Birkenhead pier and let him drift out to sea.

Also Everton took advantage of the loan system - which I think should be scrapped.

Putting Everton's success down to the loan system is ridiculous . To get where they are with their resources compared with other  top 6 sides is fantastic and a huge credit to Martinez .

Pete - I think that you may have missed the word "also".
