Football season 2013-2014

Posted by: mista h on 16 August 2013

As tomorrow the silly season starts all over again i thought i would start up this new thread so that followers of this stupidly rich game could have a say in anything Footie related. So if you want to have a moan or sing the praises about anything related would love to know about it.

My own moan is that lazy git Berbatov has carried on the way he ended last season. Watched him in our 2 home PSFs.He hardly broke sweat.

Also got to shake hands with our new Billionaire Chairman(Mr Khan),a friendly guy who appears to have trouble finding a barber shop

You sound like Alan Shearer on MOTD there MDS - be careful! The Dudley Dynamo doesn't guarantee PL survival - nobody does (except maybe Tony Pulis), but he does guarantee mostly deadly dull football.

I think the fans would put up with his route one stuff it it were effective - but it very rarely is. Allardici was found out years ago. Worse still, we are never going to attract any decent players with this oaf in charge

Actually, I think the Bongo Brothers aren't stupid. Short-sighted and stingy, definitely, but not daft. They are well aware of fan discontent, which is reaching dangerously high levels (the joy of mashing the Spuds three times in a season doesn't really make up for the total lack of entertainment at home and away this past season) - if season ticket renewals plummet (as I suspect they might do with the prospect of another season of Hippo Head's anti-football) and the Dildo Twins are looking at an Olympic Stadium full of empty seats, then that's as dire a prospect as relegation.

I can't believe that I got home from football just after 6 o'clock - weird

Thank you Citeh - the alternative was frankly horrendous - and now you have won more Premiership titles than Blackburn

Eeeek! Wouldn't want to sound like AS. He played for Soton, for goodness sake.

I agree about the two owners. You don't get that rich from humble beginnings by being stupid.  Good point about the season ticket sales. While the move to the Olympic Stadium must make commercial sense I suspect it won't have anything like the intimate atmosphere of Upton Park.

Cheaper 25 miles east, and a better atmosphere.

Actually being down in the lower divisions was not so bad. Big fish, small pond, modern stadium, and a new owner who had money, unlike the lot twenty five miles along the coast to the east who ended up with the only Oil Sheik who didn't appear to own an oil well!!

At times we wre scoring for fun (another game,  another goal from Rickie), fortyfive thousand of us at Wemberley where we thrashed some team or other, then back-to-back promotions.......all for less than twenty quid a game with my S/T. They were fun times. Then we got promotion to the Prem, the prices more than doubled overnight (and there were less games). I had a choice - S/T at SMS or an Olive system.......I chose the Olive.

Talking of which, full credit to Man U fans for creating the atmosphere at SMS yesterday in their 1-1 with Saints. Sensing a 'goodbye' to Adam and Luke, and maybe MoPo, Saints' fans seemed quiet.

Hopefully Saints will be able to buy players of the same VFM as Dejan Lovren with the Lallana/ Shaw profits, and finish even higher next season.

Yes, let's hope they don't waste their bounty like the Spuds did...

This years premier League using only English players.

Congratulations to Man City!  At the end of a long season, I think that the team with the best overall talent won the EPL. But funny how this doesn't seem to translate to the Champions League. Any thoughts on why that is?

The team with second highest level of talent finished third in the EPL. Chelsea did well to advance to the Champions League semi's, but the loss at home to AM was such a buzz kill! I doubt fans are happy with their two third-place finishes.

Liverpool fans will be sulking for a while -- it is hard coming so close, and then blowing it.  But their goal this year was top 4, and they achieved it. This will help a lot in terms of off-season signings. They are young and fast, and they look to be a top-4 squad for the foreseeable.

I see this same three-way race next year, and the off-season moves could be fascinating to watch!

Also, as quickly as they fell, Man United could be right back in it next year. They have the money, and the determination.  They only need a manager (Pep perhaps?)...and some players. :-)  But something tells me they have a better shot at returning to the Champions League the following year than any of the next three...

Personally, I don't see much to separate Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham. I think the Europa League experience will benefit the latter two, while another early exit from the Champions League awaits Arsenal. Unless, again, there are major off-season changes.

Possession is over-rated. Look at how Real Madrid handled Bayern with lightening fast counter-attacks. I also love the fast strike football that Liverpool plays, and it was the main reason I chose to root for them this past season. I'll also root for Real Madrid on May 24th -- it is fun supporting teams that make football a beautiful game.

Once we get to June, I think we should start a World Cup thread. Once the US and UK are eliminated, I plan to support to the home squad. Viva Seleção Brasileira!

ATB.

You're welcome  - sore throat today though

If Liverpool had been offered runners-up at the start of the season I think the club and fans would have taken it. They've done very well with a squad that lacks depth. Apart from 'the biter', I think Sturridge and Henderson have done well for them, and I was one of those who thought LFC had spent well over the odds in buying Henderson. After a mediocre start, the board have been rewarded by sticking with the manager, too. A lesson there for a few other clubs.

Next season will be interesting. Man City could well show even more swagger now that they have the confidence of two titles in three years. LFC should be there but the squad needs strengthening (papers say they already in for Soton's Lallana). Arsenal will flatter to deceive, and Spurs more so. Chelsea will be there as the Special One has consistently said that this was a transitional season.  It would be nice to see Everton push on with the wonderful Martinez in charge but not sure they can afford to buy the additional quality players.  Man U? Gosh, who knows? If Van Gaal is allowed to splash the cash only an idiot would write-off the Red Devils.

I'm looking forward to the 14/15 season already. Just the minor distraction of the World Cup first, a topic probably worthy of a separate thread.

With Tim Sherwood gone at Spurs, Saints' MoPo is apparently joint favourite to replace him. No! Here's hoping the other guy gets it.

Taken from the FFC website today......at least our Captain in honest.

“Looking back, we had a chance to survive,” said Brede. “After the wins over Villa and Norwich we were confident. But over the season as a whole, we were far from good enough. With a bit of luck we might have saved ourselves from relegation but we probably deserved to go down.

Fulham was recently bought by Pakistani Businessman from USA Shahid Khan. We have posted the full first team squad of Fulham while the salaries details are derived from other big magazines Like The sunday times, Francefootball, Forbes and goal.com so the accuracy of salary details can not be 100% right. But thats the best we could find after researching extensive database of European football
