Gapless issues on 3.21 thread vanished?

Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 17 August 2013

Strange, my thread discussing whether other people were  experiencing gapless playback issues on 3.21 has disappeared. Perhaps there is also a glitch on the forum?

Excellent work sjbabbey.

Might be useful to email Naim about this, in case they don't read this thread.

Clearly if the gapless problem occurs on the USB input it cannot be simply UPnP server related but a problem with the new firmware.

Would like to know what is happening about a fix for this issue.

Just sent an email to naim support.

Hi, with regard to the gapless issue, Naim have already confirmed on this forum they are looking into this issue with the new firmware.

I was referring to the interrupted playback of DSD transcoded files being more likely to do with the upnp server.

I wonder where Naim is with the fix?

I have recently 'discovered'  Johny Cash... and the album Johnny Cash at San Quentin is possibly one of my best live albums yet and it is gapless ... The emotion, energy and interplay with the prisoners is moving and a fascinating insight into Cash.. And on a Naim system, shut your eyes and  you are there in that prison.. until you open your eyes in a start as a pause/glitch randomly gets inserted into the audio expierience.

I expect that fixing the iOS7 issues will now have higher priority, this is probably an unwelcome 'distraction' from ironing out bugs from the last release.

Possibly so - but extremely frustrating as  the gapless issue affects everybody streaming - the ios7 issue only affects those using that particular operating system.

Good news regarding nStream 3.5,  but I note no mention of the gapless glitch? Any news on this?

Posted on: 05 October 2013 by Simon-in-Suffolk

Dave, I seen now news, it has been quiet from Naim on this. This bug really is distracting. Hopefully we will get an update in a few days, as Naim apparently have been on this for a couple of months now.

Dito Simon.

What has surprised me is how much gapless music there is and how much I listen to.

Phil, if you are reading, all your friends would really like an update

I suppose it's possible that there's a new version of the streamer firmware waiting in the wings, but with nStream 3.5 as a prerequisite. Once 3.5 is in general circulation with no major reported issues we could see another firmware version drop. Just hoping...

Hi All,

RE Gapless, the issue has been identified and new firmware is currently being tested by our QA team. This is not a trivial task as this firmware is shared by many of our products. I would hope to have a further update soon

Good news.  Thank you TJ.

TJ - thanks - and if you need any beta testers - you know you are welcome to ask here - we used to be able to sniff out the issues

Hi,

Do we have any idea on time frame?

Posted on: 16 October 2013 by TJ

we have released a proposed fix to our QA team and some beta testers. I am not going to commit to a release date now but it is looking good.

Bless ya heart TJ!

Thank you for the update.

TJ is it still looking encoraging?.. BTW I think I have found another bug in the firmware that is i think is linked to automation and the timing of input selection .. Which then  requires a powercycle  to clear, hopefully your beta testers have found this as well. I am trying to define it into a predictable sequence of steps.. But seems intermittent.
