Gapless issues on 3.21 thread vanished?

Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 17 August 2013

Strange, my thread discussing whether other people were  experiencing gapless playback issues on 3.21 has disappeared. Perhaps there is also a glitch on the forum?

Yes, Simon. Let's hope it's just an update to the web site that's gone a bit wrong rather than a last minute issue forcing it to be pulled. I guess we will find out soon.

Ok, anyone installed it yet?

Any feedback?

I'm out of questions....for now!

Indeed you are correct.

TJ...help!!!!!

Just downloaded and installed the 3.22 update, the link provided directed me to the correct software. Installed it onto my Uniti2 with no problem at all, took about 10 minutes in total. So far so good, one 24 Bit download that wouldn't play gapless is now working fine. I noticed that, before the update, the buffer would empty right at the end of the track and that would result in a brief silence until it refilled. With the update the buffer is emptying and refilling before the end of the track. Result - gapless playback. Well done Naim. Hope everyone else has the same success.

It only works in it!!

Couple of heart stopping moments during update, suffice to say...all good.

Well done Naim....again

No upgrade problem here. Works nicely from the few tests I have done yesterday.

Has anyone tried to run the updater with OS X Mavericks?

Posted on: 08 November 2013 by Michel Werner

I upgraded with Mavericks without problem. My HiFace does not work anymore though. M2Tech says it is working on a fix.

Michel, ok, great! Thanks.

I updated my SuperUniti and UnitiLite today but needed Phil Harris to come to my rescue. It seems that the problem was that the mini USB did not work when plugged into a USB3 port. Not sure why that is. However after that it went well and all is now finished. I then updated my iPad and nStream. The main problem with updating the iPad is typing this post. As I type the post screen disappears from view every time I use the space bar and I have to keep scrolling up and down to find it. Anyone else having similar problems?

Flawless update using window xp on an old laptop. Gapless playback is back...just as it should be.  Thanks Naim!

All ok here, serial lead via MacPro running Maverick..

Posted on: 10 November 2013 by Simon-in-Suffolk

Allen, using a brand new MacBook Pro here with serial lead plugged into USB port and works no problems. Within the OSX environment there appears good support for serial links for modems and serial terminals - RS 232 is still very important in the IT world, but in reflection of this setup and validation on OSX perhaps seems more 'professional' rather than 'consumer'.

There are various steps you can do to ensure the drivers are loaded correctly including the RS232 driver in this case.

as Naim appear to use prolific hardware for at least the Ethernet interfaces and possibly other interfaces I have ensured I use a prolific serial driver. The instructions for OSX here:

My update went very smoothly using a two-year old Mac Pro running 10.8.2.

Gapless is working again -- no more clicks. I am still seeing the buffer drop to 0% in the last few seconds of a song, but then it refills very quickly to 100% before the next song begins.

Correction to my above post.. Naim uses Asia Pacific Microsystems hardware for the network stack, at least on my NDX.

However my Prolific USB to serial converter works well with Naim and other devices.

Having been one of the first to notice the new firmware being posted, I must be one of the last to actually update. Just done the deed via Macbook Pro running Mavericks - flawless process. Thanks to Naim for restoring gapless playback

Just upgraded my Qute1 to 3.22 FW. Still have an audible glitch concurrent with advancing to the next track. Very noticeable with headphones on. Streaming over ethernet via server running Asset 4.1 transcoding FLAC>WAV. Previously the buffer ran to 0 when changing tracks and had to "refill" at the start of the next track. Now the buffer momentarily runs to 0 approximately 5 seconds before the end of the track and refills instantaneously. The audible sound occurs about 5 seconds later. I've restarted both the Qute and server and verified the FW version from the front of the unit. Also verified 3 different gapless albums play perfectly in Foobar2000. Any ideas?

Posted on: 14 November 2013 by DaveBk

Hmmm, odd. However, I have a similar issue where one transition still has an audible glitch. On Genesis, Genesis, as Home by the sea changes to Second home by the sea there is a glitch. However on other albums such as Global Communication, 76:14 the transitions are perfect. I assumed the Genesis album was not perfect on the CD, but have no player so can't confirm.

Firmware upgrade ok but BSOD at start of streamer update - happened twice. Win7 x64 so not sure what the issue is. At least Naim not bricked but streamer still not Gapless. Any one else had similar? Guess I should try with another laptop

Posted on: 16 November 2013 by quickben

Used an old vista machine to complete the upgrade. Tried DSOTM and still the gap between tracks sadly. Was so hopeful that this was going to be the fix. Anyone else tried with the nac-n172 xs?

Posted on: 16 November 2013 by IanG

I've been running with the beta since September and updated to 3.22 last week and haven't had a single gapless issue since on my NDS.

Make sure you email Naim support with your observations.
