Yellow Pages

Just tried to look up the number for MachineMart, Burton-On-Trent to check whether a tool I had ordered had arrived.  Couldn't find the number in the ordinary part of the BT phone book, and looked in yellow pages.  There are no headings for Tools, DIY stores, Ironmomgery, Home maintenance etc, and on checking the page with heading listings tabulated, I couldn't see any relevant heading at all!

What are they playing at?  Don't the DIY, tools people put their numbers in Yellow Pages anymore?

Found the number on t'interweb, and berated the shop for not bothering to tell me my order had arrived, when they were supposed to telephone ME!

We don't still have gas lamps or steam trains much either.

My Dad does not use the web. he finds it increasingly difficult to do business with various companies and the local paper is more useful if he wants to find a tradesman.

Yellow Pages are really an advertising section, but very useful.  Most types of business / tradesmen can be found there.  The actual headings used are not always helpful, as I have pointed out.  Incidentally, I have just rechecked the Phone Directory and found I had forgotten about the business listings section where all businesses are listed alphabetically - and MachineMart are in that bit.

Some businesses never advertise in the local press.  Probably just as well, or the paper would be the size and weight of a phone directory!

Not everyone has net access, and some just don't want it or understand it.  They should not be forcibly denied reasonable access to such information.  After all, what would you do if you had a working landline phone but no internet?

I used a steam engine to day, first time in a while(50 years) I've been able to travel from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead.
