Transferring programmes from Virgin tv recorder to external hard drive

Posted by: warwick on 01 September 2013

My flatmates and I have decided to cancel our contract with Virgin media as we're not watching many tv shows.

There is a load of programmes recorded on to the Virgin hard disk recorder that I'd like to transfer to my computer hard drive (external). Would fill up lots of dvd's.

I've seen a usb port on the back of the Virgin box. Also a scart connection.

Any idea how I can transfer the programmes ?

Thanks.

When you cancel your virgin contract, they may make you a very good offer not too.

At the moment I pay £52 for XL TV, 20mb Internet and phone line rental.

When I told them I wanted to cancel, they offered me L TV, 30mb internet and phone line rental for £37.(Essential Collection) Or XL TV, 60mb internet and phone line rental for £51.

They told me the above packages include a new Tivo box. Like you, I have about 30 hours of programs not yet watched, so i asked what the cost would be for the essential package, if I didn't have the new Tivo box. Bizarrely, the cost would go up from £37 to £43. GO FIGURE

Virgin also do that stupid thing of making you pay more for package that doesn't include their landline phones. I tried my hardest but gave in. The socket is there but not landline is connected as i get enough 'free' minutes with my mobile. Using their landline would cost a small fortune. I don't know what they're smoking at times.

I'll be playing the cancel me card in 2 months when this 12 month contract runs out too.

I'd be surprised if transferring data off your cable box like that wasn't at least a breach of your terms and conditions (especially once you have no contract). Possibly actually illegal.
