nStream crashes on (server) playlist

I would like to know how to troubleshoot this problem.

I view the playlists from my server in nStream on my iPad, expecting to play the music files in "shuffle."  I hold my finger on the name of my desired playlist, thus opening the popup menu.  I select "Play" and nStream "vanishes from the screen in a panic.  There are some playlists which play normally, and some which always produce the panic crash. (Note: this is not a local playlist created in nStream - these were created on the server).

Upon restarting nStream, I return to the playlist and select it.  nStream shows me the tracks in the playlist.  I do note that iTunes reports 200 songs in the list, and nStream reports 191 songs.  Hmmm...  With this many songs, I have not yet attempted a tedious comparison to find which songs are missing.

I get this behavior often using Asset UPnP server (running in Crossover WinXP emulation) an less often using Playback as server.

My system is:

  - late 2012 Mac Mini OSX 10.8, Playback or Asset (in Crossover)

  - UnitiQute 24/192, firmware 3.21.000

  - wired ethernet thru network switch

  - iPad2 64GB, IOS 6.1.3 (10B329)

  - nStream 3.4.7079

I see that a "LatestCrash-nStream.plist" file was created, which is forwarded to Apple (I think).  I assume this is a vulnerability in nStream - is there information I could provide to help the Naim development team?

More importantly, how do I work around this?  I noted some songs in the list had missing files, but when I delete them from the playlist, that did not fix the problem.  Only three apps are running on iPad.  I have cleared the UPnP cash in nStream.

Enjoying my other playlists....

Interesting...

After spending several hours cleaning up my library of "lost files", the playlist (which prompted my above post) now works without crashing nStream.  This using Playback for server.

I still have playlists that cause a crash, so will continue investigation.

One thought.. What is your playlist size you are trying to load? I think the max playlist on the 192/24 streaming board is 250. Are your playlists that cause the crash larger than this? They shouldn't  crash Nstream either way, but it is worth checking.

In this way, the upnp server offers the playlist tracks to Nstream, and if selected, then Nstream loads the indexes of the tracks into the rendererer memory, such that the renderer can then pull each track back from the upnp server whilst playing it.

Thanks, Simon.  This plylist was 200 tracks.  I have much longer ones that don't crash nStream -they become truncated.  As i can find time, i will investigate further.  I sent an email to support, and posted this, since i assum Naim dont want their app to crash.

My workaround is that my Mac Mini is in the same room and feeds optical into the nDAC on a 3m cable.  I can just play from iTunes with small compromise in SQ.
