NACA5 and Ethernet Cable Together

Posted by: Gavin B on 10 September 2013

The NACA5 to my left speaker runs under / round the back of my firepace surround.  If I was to connect my Qute to the router using ethernet cable, that cable would have to run on top of the NACA5 under the fire surround.

Is that going to cause any issues, and is there anything to be done to get round the issues?

Very unlikely, and if there are issues there are probably much bigger issues associated with wi-fi pollution, SMPS hash and other forms of interference to worry about first. I have a cat6 RJ45 running in parallel with my right speaker cable for 3m, can't say I can hear anything untoward...

Of course there is always 'something to be done' if it plays on your mind, like finding a more circuitous route for one of the cables, but that may have another unforseen impact

Gavin I have found because of the lower impedances that the speaker cable attached to speakers appear not sensitive to RFI from Ethernet. This is quite different from mains (bizarrely) and interconnect and antenna leads. The latter has been a right PITA.

If in doubt you can always use screened Ethernet leads to cut down on the RFI leakage - and regular Ethernet leads certainly do radiate - despite their twisted pairs

Thanks both.  It sounds like I don't need to worry unduly.
