Bass light nd5xs

Posted by: SAN999 on 19 September 2013

Have one on borrow. In comparison to my usual source (cd5xs) it seems to lack the attack and lower end is to my ears a little light weight. Is this anything to do with the files I have ripped? I used the simple windows media player WAV/lossless. Or could it be anything else? It's been on 24 hours, will it improve? Any suggestions/input? Even Mrs Nash notices the difference. I did borrow one last year and didn't like what I was hearing so thought I would give it another go but so far slighty disappointed (again).  Many thanks for any suggestions. Cheers.

With the latest version of firmware (v3.21) I heard no change in the sound.

To thevOP, I think it's a case of you comparing the DAC/presentation of your CD player with the ND5XS, and you quite understandably prefer the former. If you wish to stream it might be just a case of trying a different product / DAC.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for that info. So it seems that any alteration to the sq of a unit after a firmware upgrade may sometimes occur, and if this is the case, it is an unintentional outcome of the update process rather than a Naim goal.

Perhaps then,  a little health warning should be provided with said firmware upgrade, somewhat like, '...this produce may contain nuts'.
