UnitiServe Firmware Update to 1.7a

Posted by: Burgy100 on 21 September 2013

I know, I know this has been mentioned before and have trawled the forum for the last 24hrs, oh stopping to get some sleep though, but I cannot seem to upgrade my Unitiserve from 1.6d to 1.6g and then on to 1.7a. The unit just spits the cd-r out after about 15s. Seems to try to read it and the nothing. I downloaded the .iso file and burnt it straight to a disc as stated in the .pdf instructions.

The disc is a non-bootable .iso do I have to make it a bootable .iso or is there anything else glaring that I have missed. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks Steve

It's probably something to do with the way you extracted the ISO file. Once you get that right it will work. I posted a step by step guide to doing the upgrade a couple of months ago, which you might find useful. Naim will supply the discs if you need them.

Many Thanks for the quick reply Hungrhalibut, yep I read you details and very sucsynced indeed. I take it that you do not have to make it a bootable disk and I read somewhere that stephen hopkins wrote about burn speeds, anyrate thanks for the reply and heads up about Naim supplying disks, I did not know that. Its much appreciated Steve

Also, it supposed to spit the disk out, have you got the serve hooked up to a screen?

Hello garyi, yes I had it hooked up to a screen and viewed the GUI via its I.P address and nothing showed, just spat the disc out after 15s, after what appeared to be read.

Hello Hungryhalibut, what a nice person you are and may well take you up on your offer. I will talk to Naim and my dealer tomorrow to see if a can borrow a disc and if not i'll post you back. Many Thanks

No problem - they will go in the bin otherwise. I don't know where my post went though - very odd.

Do you use Mac to burn the files? As far as I remember I had to burn the files from my windows job laptop to get the update to work. Could that be the issue?

Burgy, if you have hooked it up to a screen the IP has no baring on the matter.

i.e. you should use the VGA out on the back of the serve into a standard computer monitor. You will see the IP GUI but its direct. Its only from this method that you see any progress.

Although it sounds like your burn was not a success.

Hello Hungryhalibut, Please don't bin 'em I'll let you know tomorrow night by this forum. Thanks

Hello Steiner, I have a Mac but burnt the discs at work via standard Windows burn software.

Hello garyi, Many Thanks for your reply I did not hook up the vga to pc monitor but also used s-video to my panasonic tv. Crikey my ND5 XS was a doddle to upgrade!
