unitiqute upgrade?

Posted by: Aidan1 on 01 October 2013

Hi Folks.

Have an original Unitiqute (and love it) was a bit gutted when Unitiqute2 came out as I had only had mine a few month by then.

My question is, can my dealer upgrade the hardware inside my Unitiqute?

How much would it cost me to get the board upgraded to read 192khz files like the Unitiqute2 does?

Thanks.

Nope, can't upgrade. Chipset is different. Would cost less just to buy a new one.

I will say that I've listened to both and they're really not all that different. I also have a Qute1 and wouldn't upgrade to a 2. If you're going to invest, better to go to a Uniti or SN for a big change.

Having said that I'm buying a NAP100 for mine, but I accept that's a slightly bonkers indulgence. They just look so nice together.

You can upgrade your original Qute to play 192. Cost will depend on where you leave. Ask your dealer

Yes it can be upgraded by your dealer.

Yes and No!

The Qute cannot be upgraded to a Qute2.

The Qute can be upgraded to play 24/192.

The big difference being a Qute2 can play 32/192 as standard, the upgrade stops at 24bit.

Just spoke to my dealer in North West UK.

Said that a software update might do the trick on very latest models of original Unitiqute.

I've updated to latest firmware 3.21 and still won't play 192khz files.

He's going back to Naim for me to see what they can offer to do.

If uber expensive to get latest board that reads 192 files put in won't bother, but if reasonable, I may.

Will keep you posted.

To be honest, I don't know if I'd be able to tell the difference or not?

Just presumed it would sound better and also HDTracks seem to be more and more @ 192khz files, so that's why I really wanted it, other than being a bit miffed that the upgrade did it at the same price I paid just a few months later, but that's life.

Got to say, listening to Naim's exclusive Radio Paradise @320 sounds great, so I'm actually doubting now if I could tell the difference between 24bit 96/192khz.

Anyways, my dealer is looking into it for me, like I said, if I doesn't cost more than it's worth, then I may go for an upgrade.

Thanks.

Got my UQ1 with the upgraded 24/192 board and have no desire to go further and I wouldn't be able to listen to the 3 or 4 32 bit files available, and if I did, I wouldn't be listening through a UQ2!
