NDX and NDS question....

Posted by: T38.45 on 06 October 2013

Folks,

just two questions for NDS/NDX lovers...

- will an NDX+XPS outperform a NDS+XP5 XS?

- NDX is able to play 192/24 with an upgrade (think this was a HW change)...does this improve the sound quality as well?

cheers Ralf

Answers.

1) objectively no. The NDS is designed to a higher tolerences than the NDX, so you you have a higher accuracy DAC and faster, lower noise audio circuitry. There is also significantly more internal electricical and mechanical de coupling in the NDS compared to the NDX and so noise, both digital and analogue is lower. A PSU can't remedy this. Which one do you prefer, well that is subjective and only you can decide..

2)The early NDX was limited to 96/24 by its streaming board. These early devices can have a simple modular hardware change. Was there a difference in SQ. I remember thinking possibly.. But not night and day.

Thank you Simon...

the NDS+XP5 XS sounds already incredible good....but I'll

have to hear both systems a/b if dealer gets one...
