Naim Superuniti = Frustration

Posted by: Peter Wootton on 09 October 2013

Why did I spend £3,350 on a product that acts like a prototype? Updating a network connected product should be a question of pressing a couple of buttons!

Come on Naim, it sounds great, just make it more user friendly please?

Is it that much of an issue that you need to complain here? Surely you knew that was how it needs to be upgraded when you bought it? You may choose to upgrade once a year, but will listen to it every day, and it really does do its job very well. The upgrade faff is a small price to pay.

If you cannot manage it, I'm sure your dealer will do it for you. Alternatively there is always NaimNet for the "cash rich : time poor" souls!

It works fine even without the updates. I haven't seen a compelling reason to do an update.

Hi Peter -

Most would agree that Naim's network player firmware update process is relatively complex, but only the first time you do it.  After that, it's not such a big deal.  Besides, it does have one very important advantage over many of the "one button" network upgrade mechanisms -- it is restartable from any point of interruption and will not "brick" your system.

I never updated none of my 3 UnitiQute I have, the first one is a 2010 model, the others are 2012, is it a problem not to have done the updates? What would I gain updating them?

They sound great anyway!

Edouard

Bonjour Maurice,

As you can see in my profil, I have 3 Qute because I have 3 systems

I never had a chance to listen to the NDS...I'm perfectly happy with my CDS3/555PS

Why would I sell my CDS3 for little money and spend a huge amount of Euros to replace it with an NDS and a NAS,  when I'm not even sure it'll sound better....

Moreover since I got my system 2 and 3, I listen much less to the big system!

I really don't stream much, I'm happy with CDs...and i.radio

Regards,

Edouard

Bonjour Edouard,

Yes, I saw your profile. And you're right, you may find the NDS not performing better than your CDS3, but you won't know until you try it ! As you're into classical music, there's a lot to like with high resolution downloads of new material from Qobuz or eClassical, for instance. And I bet a NDS (or a KDS/1) would reveal much more from them than the UnitiQute, as good as it is.

Don't let these beautiful Amatis silent !
