Q2 or V1

I'm looking at either the qute2 or v1 dac.

I have a nait5i, SBT and qnap, and meridian 508.24 CD player.

As I have a 19 month old baby cd replay is nonexistent I listen (when I have time) to the SBT controlled by ipad as its easy.

So what would you get if you were in my situation.

qute 2, it  would take all my sources, ps3, WD media player, sky box, rega p2 And can be controlled by my ipad and its a neat one box solution.

V1 dac, its supposed to have a better sound, can't take all my sources, its an added box on to what I already have, im not using the pre amp section, its really aimed at PC audio and if I ditched the nait5i and got its matching power amp, well then that's the rega p2 out the window.

BUT IT'S SUPPOSED TO HAVE BETTER SOUND!!

I have a Qute and NAP100 and love it. I bought the Qute first and then added the NAP when it was released, so I didn't consider the Unitilite. However, even with equal SQ i would choose my combo because i never listen to CDs and I love the design.

I have heard the Lite briefly and I'd say it's different rather than better. Maybe a fraction bouncier sound. But either option is great I think.

The qute does not have a fixed line out. The Dac-V1 does.

Fixed out? Line out?....not sure about the terminology (I am but a simple northerner). I do know I have wires connecting my Q2 to my 252 which in turn is connected to my Headline, delivering wonderful music through speakers and headphones. The reason I know this is my foot taps when I press the mute button.

How do you concet UQ2 and the pre amp?

You take the signal through the variable line out to your preamp. I used to run my Qute into a 52 this way. The trick is to set the volume on the Qute to 72 I believe. I started out with volume=100, but IIRC Richard Dane posted a couple of years back that Volume=72 was the way to go. I had unpacked my streamer by the time Richard posted so the Qute was in its usual role as second system.

I heard that setting the volume to 75 was recommended also but have mine at 90 which to my ears is slightly more appealing SQ wise. I also read somewhere that the Q2 likes to be driven hard. Maybe because it puts less volume stress on the 252?

It all works superbly well though.

No, you cannot control it from Ipad directly, but you can change inputs with it's remote and control playback with it as remote can control computer applications.
