Unitiserve SSD - new user initial set up question

Posted by: Zo on 10 October 2013

Just purchased 2nd hand Unitiserve.  New to world of computer audio and have yet to purchase NAS.

Plugged in Unitiserve and all appropriate cables, connected unitiserve to ethernet, installed desktop client software on pc and attempted to insert CD just to hear how it fares as a cd transport in comparison to DVD5 (both connected to Naim Dac).  I could not get Unitiserve to accept any cd (when either playback or rip option was selected), I acknowledge that I have not thoroughly read through manual (intend to do this weekend).
I was able to get internet radio stations playing, but no luck with feeding a cd into unit.  Does NAS need to be connected for unit to simply play a CD?  Hoping this is simply an indicator that I need to complete some sort of set-up protocol and not an issue with the unit.

When you say it wont accept a cd is it taking it in and spitting it out, or not able to insert?

If the latter there is a CD stuck in there? Either way I think it might need the tender touch of an expert.

Actually thinking about it and being as I don't own one take my responses as conjecture.

But presumably if you have a ssd version it will rip initially to the ssd then pass to the NAS.

Presumably therefore if it cannot find somewhere to pass it to, it wont rip.

That being said in play mode, it should play.

if the CD stays into it but no music is playing, the serve is in rip mode..Change it to play mode.

Manu,

The OP did state : "I could not get Unitiserve to accept any cd (when either playback or rip option was selected),"

Oups, missed that one...

Sorry Zo for my useless post...

There does not appear to be any existing cd in the drive.  To be sure, I inserted a paper clip into the manual ejection slot on front panel.

I can insert cd about 4/5ths in to where I feel a bit of spring back resistance.  I can continue to push the cd with slight effort all the way in to its edge but it simply springs back to 4/5 position.  I can hear no cd-drive mechanical mech action at any point of attempting to insert the cd.

It sounds like the cd mech is knackered... happended to mine. Did you buy it at a dealer?
