How did it sound when you auditioned it in your system before you bought one? What's changed? I think you are likely in for some ups and downs with the PS. It will take a good month, if not more to settle. This is most likely what you are experiencing, particularly if the unit you tried out on audition was well run in.

If you are unhappy after a month, then something may need looking at. I don't think the 250 does good bass. It might be that the NDS is not being sympathetic to this in perhaps the same way as the CDS3.

We bought an NDS very soon after it hit the market. We powered it with a non-DR XPS2 which had previously seen service on our nDAC. We put a new 555PS-DR in last week and were struck by how much more really low bass we were getting from our system. This has tightened up considerably as the PS settles in.

You could try a 200 instead of the 250 to see if that helps...

There's the reason you are disappointed...

Oh dear. Well, it is likely to change sound over the next few weeks and it is to be hoped that the balance comes out OK in your room and system. A little patience and some minor speaker repositioning, which can make a big difference and is not uncommon when a more revealing source is introduced. The only thing that worries is that fresh out of the box your NDS/555PS should speak with great eloquence and only get better.

Big gamble, making decisions of this kind based on other peoples' ears and opinions. I've been disappointed, most notably with 202, 282, 200 and 250, not to mention more other components and brands than I can remember. I don't think the CD555 is particularly VFM compared to a CDS3 either. This is not heresy. It's just personal preference based for the most part on home audition. I wouldn't tell someone else what to like or not like and what to buy or not buy based on my opinions, and I certainly wouldn't go through the process the other way around.

I wish you all the best with it. The NDS is a very capable player at the highest level. I would not be surprised if it beds in well for you. I would be more surprised if the NDS is portraying limitations downstream although it can happen. My CDX2 was stifled by speakers which allowed a CD5/Hi to rock all night.  Funny old world. Before all that though, the sound balance you will have by around the end of November is likely to be significantly different to what you have now. I hope it suits.

If by some very unlikely sequence of events you have ended up with a duffer, Naim will look after you. You won't know for a month or two.

Well, regardless, I hope it works out for you and I expect it probably will. At this stage, just give it time and maybe think about a bit of speaker tuning. If the presentation is moving about a bit (which it can, particularly when a 555PS is running in) I wouldn't be putting too much effort into moving speakers about yet.

I assume the wiring and setup have been doubled checked? Transit bolts removed? That sort of thing. It sounds obvious but it never hurts.

Please don't make any major changes yet. Give it a bit more time since the 552 is new and so is the NDS.

How are you feeding your NDS?

In a week or two, I will suggest first re-dressing and adjusting the burndy that connects the NDS to the 555ps. I've demonstrated the effect to a few of my friends with my DAC and XPS2. If it's not correctly dressed, it will really disrupt the sound.

Then please report back and hopefully someone can help.

I would recommend you plan for the upgrade to the PSU.

Plus you are only a week into your acquisition, as someone else has said, give it a month for the PSU & new NDS to settle in.

thanks for your help i will give it a time right now its sound bad like a regular cheap system with any exciting

My NDS sounded like crap for the first 4 weeks, then it started to open up. 10 months on and it's the best digital source I've heard.  Give it time, it will get much better.
