n-stream as full remote

Posted by: stpierre76 on 12 October 2013

I am curious as to know if the n-stream will ever be capable of acting as a full fledge remote and totally replace the supplied hand held remote.May be it is already and I don t know as to set it up.

it would be great to be able to access all the functions on the hand held remote via the n-stream app.

regards

I can't imagine how that would happen.

I believe you can add IR emitter attachments to iPads and use programs which learn from an exisiting remote. If so, then I guess it could be done that way.

It would also be possible to write a program to emulate a remote on the iPad and use the RS232 connection on the back of suitably equipped device via the network and something like the Global Cache iTach IP2SL. This was launched for Meridian components earlier this year. It works very well.

Hi jobseeker, Thanks for your input and my apologies for the late reply as ve been on call all of last week and had a few late nights. I have a yamaha receiver which is fully controllable via the iPad and it s great, though the interface is no way near as good as the nstream, but it did make me think if it would ever eventuate. The iPad is an extremely versatile tool and it would be awesome to be able to not only stream via the iPad but also use it as a full remote. Regards

I had an Onkyo stereo receiver which was also controllable that way, but it was clumsy and the app was poor to say the least. That's why I replaced it with a 'Qute - infinitely better.

get a harmony remote/smart hub.  It will control everything you want.
