Anybody ever own or hear a cyrus stream x? My setup is naim dac and Nait xs, and would like a dac less streamer to add. There is one for sale second hand for 800 quid here in dublin
Thanks
Are you talking about a version 1 or a version 2 ? If it's a version 2, does it have the N Remote with it ? What version of firmware does it have ? How would you intend to control it ? These are relevant questions for functionality, ease of operation and value for money.
If you intend to use an I-device for control, you would need a version 2 with the latest (dealer-install only) firmware. Otherwise you need the NRemote. Cyrus use Tune-In Radio as the iRadio app, rather than VTuner, which Naim use.
I know that you say you want a DAC-less streamer. However, for £800 you can buy a 'Qute and simply use the digital-out into the Naim DAC. . The quality of sound will be just as good and you also have an excellent full functionality device which can be used stand-alone or sold later more easily and for better money than a Stream X. If you wanted specifically to go with Cyrus, I would still recommend the Streamline (recently reduced in price), which is their 'Qute equivalent.
I have auditioned the Cyrus products. I'm a Cyrus fan and a former Cyrus owner. However, I still went Naim when I wanted to get into streaming. As you're a current Naim owner, I would stick with them even though they don't have a streaming-only device yet.
I would not pay £800 for second hand UQ1. I was going to sell mine, but have now decided not to and use it the bedroom. The best offer i managed was £550. I agree that it makes a very good streamer if that is what your are after. The UQ1 i have prefers WAV files up to 24/96 so coupled with a Synology NAS it can play most things. I can play 192s through my main system, but nothing makes me think the higher sampling rate is beneficial. 24 bit is.
So i agree with Jobseeker, but think you could get a s/h UQ1 a little cheaper.
Thanks guys. It is a version 2, with n remote. I think I could get it for 650/700.
Maybe I should wait for a better opportunity
A version 2 with up to date software (make sure you get the software upgrade done by a dealer if it doesn't have it) and N Remote is a reasonable deal at that price. You can also teach the NRemote to control other devices. If you insist on a pure streamer then I'm sure it would be fine. You might still get a 192 capable 'Qute for that though (and an original 96 version easily). I'm sure £800 ish will also soon get you a 'Qute 2 ex-dem. There are other streaming choices of course.
