What streamer/network to warm up my naim system
Posted by: prolle on 19 October 2013
Hi have a naim dac and Nait xs bit no source (apart from USB in the dac). So, I am looking for a dacless unit that will play internet radio and music from my home network. I would like something that would also warm up the sound and remove some of the harshness.
Any recommendations?
Thanks
I ran the nDAC with an ND5XS for a while. It was very, very nice, but there is a lot of redundancy (2 dacs etc). We traded both in against the NDS. I am sure that there are cheaper alternatives, and perhaps trading the nDAC in against a streamer might be a plan, or even trade in the Nait XS and nDAC against a SuperUniti. Demos are really called for, and preferably fairly lenghty home demos too!
I am also using a nd5xs into naim dac and I am loving this combo.
I have ran the nd5xs using the on board dac but after a lot of listening I can't let go of the dac.it definitely improves the nd5xs.as. Htm 1968 has quite rightly said you must do the home dem.
A possible solution at a reasonable cost is a used unitiqute 1.
Good luck,scott
Hey Prolle,
There are plenty of options for you depending a bit on quality and the budget you want to spent. If you look for a second hand SqueezeBox Touch, you have a quick start with good sound quality for a small budget. A very interesting alternative might be to buy a Apple MacMini (search this forum and you will see all the positive feedbacks and tweaks) which - apart from music - brings you an extra computer and video player. Personally I'd search for a second hand UnitiQute and use that as streamer for your music and radio.
Cheers,
Iver
Look for a simaudio moon 180 MiND. It's a streamer 24/192 without a dac inside.

+1 to this recommendation, the Moon is excellent and not too expensive either.
