Updating ND5 firmware

Posted by: Plant Pot on 20 October 2013

Hello,

I wondered if anyone out there could help me. I am reasonably computer savvy but I must admit that the ND5 has beaten me. I can't get either my Iphone or Ipad to connect (they have both done so in the past year).

I just get the "try again" message when Nstream starts up - although, just to add to the confusion, the IPad will let me play music - sometimes.

I have tried updating the firmware on the ND5 - (it might be out of date but how does one know for sure). I've attached mini USB cables and CAT 5 but it still won't find the ND5. I must be doing something wrong but can't find any clear instruction.

I must add that I deeply regret swapping my SONOS for the ND5 - yes, the Naim sounds great when it works, but it's so unreliable that it has succeeded in making playing music quite a frustrating, will it or won't it, experience.

Any helpful advice would be very gratefully received.

Thanks,

Matthew

If you look under settings in nStream (if you can connect of course) you can see the software version. You can also find it by pressing the spanner key on the remote, then go to factory settings, then system status, then scroll down to version. The latest is 3.21.00. update with a windows PC. Then make sure you gave the latest app version on your iPad. Once done you nay need to turn off the streamer, then turn it on again. All should then be well.

Thanks Hungry,

It was a driver problem with the mini USB in the end. I downloaded the latest and then I could connect for the update.

I went through all of that and then I was told that the ND5 rejected the firmware and I needed to contact Naim Technical Services. Just before I launched the damn thing through the window I thought I'd try and connect the iphone again - and it worked. I've no idea how or why but that seems to be the way.

Thanks for taking the time to reply - we got there in the end!

Thanks,

Matthew

Excellent. Once it's all working properly, it should be very solid and reliable. Fingers crossed!

This seems to be a common reaction to streaming devices.
