Mavericks and N-Stream
Posted by: Zipperheadbanjo on 23 October 2013
Curious if any mac people on the forum have upgraded to Mavericks as yet?
I'm running a SuperUniti and streaming is a pretty essential part of my music listening... so a little hesitant to upgrade until I know that there aren't any issues with N-Stream etc. Any feedback is appreciated.
Just this morning. Seems fine. No real difference that I've noticed yet. (I'm not using N-stream so can't comment on that)
Working very well on all my Macs - takes a few minutes to optimise itself though - battery life is better on my mbps!!

No problems here with my SuperUniti and Vortexbox.
Mavericks is a new Mac OS. What does it have to do with n-stream?

I understand... You are asking the ones who are running a upnp server under Mac OS. I am using a NAS myself, so cannot tell, sorry...
Happy to report that n-Serve for OS X seems perfectly happy under Mavericks.
Cool... I may just have to upgrade then!
Now I am excited. It doesn't take much LOL
I am on Mavericks, which has nothing to do with N-Stream, an iOS app. I run all my music from a NAS, but even if I ran it from a Mac running Mavericks, it's the UPnP sever that matters with N-stream. If you are running UPnP on your Mac, that is what you want to be concerned about.
If you use GMail, Maverick's Mail.app does not play nicely with GMail accounts.
Any reason for me to upgrade my MacBook Pro if I am running Win7 in Boot Camp?
I have never booted into the MacOS since I did it the first time to install Windows.
Just wondering if it would help in any way vis-a-vis battery life.
Thanks!
Patrick

When you run Windows in bootcamp, Mac OS X isn't running at all, so your choice of OS X versions is mostly irrelevant. The only possible difference for you would be if Maverick's Bootcamp software provides updated Windows drivers for Windows.
Now if you were to run Windows in a VM hosted by OS X that would be different. I use VMware Fusion to run Windows SP Pro, but OS X is my main computing environment.
What is you take on VMFusion vs Parallels?
thx.

I've used Fusion for years. I have not tried Parallels in the last 4 years or so. They both work fine.

Reading online reviews and forums, VMWare seems to have the edge of late. Personally I opted for Fusion partly because the 60 odd dollar price included unlimited licenses which the family can use. I have version 5 and it's pretty seamless. I think 6 is a paid upgrade and one of it's USPs is better inbuilt Mavericks compatibility. The upgrade costs about $10 less than a first time purchase. Both include free (should you want to install it) McAfee antivirus which I feel is essential especially if you set up Fusion to have unrestricted file sharing between your Mac and Windows. There are different levels of 'separation' that you can set up between Mac OS and Windows.
Having said that, I cannot comment as to what Parallels' latest equivalent offers visavis what I've said above.
Disclaimer: I have no vested interest in either Company.
