One little victory (in the Loudness War)

Vapor Trails has long been rightly regarded as one of the loudest, most distorted albums ever (Californication and Death Magnetic are the other two most infamous records).

I finally got my hands on the vinyl remix this evening and it's a revelation. Not perfect, by any means, but very listenable with a clear, deep bass, punchy drums and a little air to let it breathe. It still gets a bit muddled when they go for it, but it's a big improvement on the original.

Thank you Rush,

I agree, the remixed album [CD] is much better. I have just been listening to Presto. It is a great collection of songs, but has very 'thin' production. Fly by Night, [which I have also recently been listening to] by contrast has a much better fuller/warmer production balance, at least to my ears. Rush's albums do seem do have variable production quality over the years. Still wonderful stuff though.
