Your 2014 Concerts
Posted by: Richard S on 04 November 2013
Just booked for Rick Wakeman's Journey to the Centre of the Earth in Liverpool next May.
Anyone else have forthcoming concerts to announce? I only discovered the last Steve Hackett tour from this site, so here's hoping for more undiscovered gems.
Mind you, poor planning on someone's part, as Jack White was also playing last night in Leeds, only a few hundred yards away at the new First Direct Arena.
Missed it!
If you have the chance, take in a John Fogarty (ex CCR) concert. His John Fogarty 1969 tour as the current one is referred to covers all the classic CCR tunes from the period and really rocks.
I neglected to post this, from a few months ago. My first time seeing Fleetwood Mac; highly enjoyable!
Just back from Belfast, What can I say Robert Plant& The Sensational Shape Shifters
Sensational. Brilliant night The support act I think the were Last International Very Good also the first act whoes Name escapes me at the moment where very good as well.
I really wanted to see Robert Plant but his North America tour was very brief. Glad you liked it!
Bach Brandenburg Concerto 1-6:
Nicholas Kraemer/CSO
I very much enjoyed this highly rhythmic and polished performance.
I wasn't familiar with this conductor but he puts some liveliness to otherwise prim and proper CSO musicians.
The highlight for me was the No.3 where each set of sting players responding and tight together yet I could hear individual player clearly. It was sort of like Linn's tune dem where I can follow the tune well. Kraemer also did not let the tunes too stuffy and proper and kept the musicians in a light hearted jovial attitude through out. The only demerit was that the slow movements were not as intimate.
The No.5 was also disappointing only because the solo harpsichord was too soft and delicate. ( here Landowska's Pleyel would have come in handy! ) Plus I found the soloist's styling to be too fussy.
I wondered about what if a piano was used instead of cembalo but on a whole it would probably sounded *wrong* with the rest of the band.
No.6 was warm and inviting and they kept the bouncy rhythmic pulse of gigue. They finished off the cycle with No.4 which lively fiddle playing mingling with two flutes stir up the music nicely. Recorders would have been nice than flutes for a rustic touch.
I hope Kraemer would come back again and perhaps do a marathon Bach Keyboard concertos.

Have been wanting to see Jools Holland at the Albert Hall in London for years.
Now have a pair of tickets to see him on Friday night.
1 snag. Just come around in hospital after back surgery. Cannot travel to London for the concert.
Damn!
There's always next year....
FT
Robert Plant in Blackpool Tower was fantastic also.
The magnificent Julia Fordham last night in Cheltenham with Grant Mitchell on keyboard.
The Who, Live At Leeds, last night.

yesterday D. Trifonov munich.
J.S. Bach/Franz Liszt: Transskriptionen für Orgel
Ludwig van Beethoven: Klaviersonate Nr. 32 c-Moll op. 111
Franz Liszt: 12 Études d'exécution transcendante S. 139
With doubt on the basis of gehubels gone in the media and the marketing machine of DG into the concert.
Bach / Liszt was good.
Beethoven as well with a tendency to extreme illustration in 1st movement.
2nd was good with a demonstration that
he is not only a technician but also a wholesale-like musician.
List was incredible. Perhaps the best thing I've ever heard in piano solo live.
****ing unbelievable. This work, such a demonstration of skils in technical and as well musical aspects.
I missed him last season but I'll be attending a few concerts next season with Trifonov.
Rachmaninov's 1st Piano Concerto with Bychkov and duet with Gidon Kremer playing Mozart, Schubert and Weinberg pieces.
Looking forward to hear him play altho his Carnegie debut CD was a bit of a disappointment.

Yes, concerts can be great, except for the plonkers holding their phones up taking photos.

Bychkov will be playing Shosty's No.8 as well as Bruckner with CSO in Spring. I know nothing of this conductor so looking forward to discovering his style.
Hi Wankyincanada,
Just to reassure you that I took my pictures of The Who with my camera close to my chest or at eye level, never held out at arms length or above my head.
Keep on enjoying going to concerts.
All the best to you and yours,
Richard
