Sarum TA Ethernet anyone ?

I know somebody who's evaluating one but he's yet to make his final determination. The general impression though is positive.

£1600 per metre FFS.

I liked the FB comment  "What proper Hi-fi would you need ethernet cables for?"

Chord don't tend to do things unless they feel they can do something a bit different so good luck to them.

My Audioquest lead looks positively Poundland next to the STA...

Oh dear.

My impression: Definitely more detailed but at the sacrifice of timing over a cheap cat5e cable. I wouldn't bother myself.

My mistake. He's trying out the Chord STA USB cable.

Hey its directional nice one, data can only go one way! Inky blackness awaits.

So, now the highly respected Chord Company has been infiltrated by charlatans who listen to the effect cables have on music rather than sit at home and theorising. Those Sarum Tuned ARAY owners who know why their cables work should hand them back in protest!

I just worked out to replace the ethernet cables in my system, would be about the same as a 552/500 S/H with trade in.

I can't help feel that that would be a much better use of the money.

Some people will buy anything for any money, dear god its getting ridiculous now - I thought the power cable was bad enough but directional ethernet cables for £1600 per meter ha ha ha ha ha. I love the completely arbitary rating scheme of coloured blobs. Surely for that money they should all be maxed out.............

I agree the price seems insane, and I won't be trying or buying, but this is a wider issue which applies to all exteme high end cables, not just ethernet. There are far more affordable alternatives available, some of which have been discused here recently (eg "A hint of Cinnamon" thread).

That's it. I'm giving up my 'career' and going into the digital cable business.

Every product have it's buyer. I think this is the right business decision in the right time.

If you can sell it you should build it.

I suppose it just feels good to some

I wonder if Naim could make one with "floating pin connectors" and how that might sound. Or cost.

Focalist,

Are you frustrated because you know the cable would only work when properly dressed and could not come into contact with any hard surfaces?

I actually thought this was a joke when I first saw the post!

I very much doubt a respected company such as Chord would open themselves to ridicule by releasing a product that didn't make any difference.

Posted on: 08 November 2013 by garyi

Of course.

I'm assuming you guys left the irony smilies out of your posts?

For what it's worth I'm not doubting these things make a difference, personally I'm just wondering if they are taking the piss over the price, I can't imagine any scenario of cost coming within a  Q4 profit of those prices being charged.
