Air Play as promised!

Thanks, DF
Because the project to put nStream on Android has taken up all of the available resources.
Of course.
If I were a manager at Naim, I would advise staying out of that business. They've obviously been taking my advice

Bart,
I lifted this quote from a different topic, but I'm starting to think you really are working for Naim. Congrats! I hope you were able to negotiate some sweet discounts on Naim gear as part of the deal
It's hard to tell where Naim put their R&D recourses since it does not seem to be into AirPlay, Android App, small speakers (baby Ovators) or flexible speaker cables… streamer/dac/pre development perhaps?
Hi,
I started a Topic yesterday on a related topic: Qute 2 with Arcam rBlink which gives you for the first time a quality steaming capability via Bluetooth; as an alternative to AirPlay. Maybe this is the way to go ? (Note: Arcam are also launching an AirPlay version of their irDAC; to be called the AirDac). It remains to be seen of course which will be better on SQ and capability: the AirDAc or the rBlink+ IrDAC combo.)
Thoughts anyone?

Yes, I could buy an airport express for $100 on top of the $500 plunked down for the "new board... to gain full AirPlay capability during the first quarter of next year…"
Frustrating, and kind of defeats the purpose of an "all-in-one" in my view.
Both of my experiences with AirPlay embedded in recent Marantz and Pioneer receivers were not very satisfying: I could not figure out how to disengage the receiver's Volume control from the iPad Volume control -- usually this is an easily-set preference. (May be operator error, but I think I am pretty good at this stuff.)
I have both Apple TV and AirPort Express into the Naim DAC, but prefer a dedicated Mac Mini into the DAC to either, especially for sound quality. But all work better than the embedded samples I have tried, to date.

Interesting. I had a NAD 7050 on demo for a week and the airplay worked perfectly. It might matter that the device (like my Unitiqute) has a digital volume control. I have to say that if it is well implemented, it's a great feature.
I use AppleTV airplay into my NDAC. It works fine. Most of the media is lossy however and so is a country mile away from streamed PCM. Good for YouTube and films however.

HTPC. Just sayin'

Run JRiver in Theater Mode, or headless with JRemote.
Best ever. Period.

I understand. It was just a suggestion how to solve the problem immediately (see below the article from Naim's Knowledge Base). All-in-one in Naim's terminology seems to indeed refer an equipment with at least one source, dac, pre/power and PSU...
At present there are no Naim products which natively support Apples AirPlay.
If you wish to use AirPlay with Naim devices then we recommend the use of an Apple Airport Express connected to the input of a Naim Uniti series product, integrated amplifier or pre-amplifier.

Apologies if my response came across as frustration directed at you. Not my intention at all, and I appreciate the suggestion for a work-around until Naim gets this sorted out.
Look into an app called Musicflow, this app uses DLNA Push. Similar to Airplay, and will allow streaming from most other sources, i.e. spotify.

All is well - no apologies needed. I did not take your comment personally and as said I understand that when earlier promises are not kept (in this case the AirPlay support) it sometimes can be very frustrating.
I have been using MusicFlow to wirelessly stream from Spotify/ Deezer and iTunes & ITunes radio via my ipad to Unitqute. It works really easily and quickly.

Thanks. I'll try it as a stopgap.
I guess I was spoiled (temporarily) by the native Airplay support in the NAD 7050. The Unitiqute still beats it hands down in sound, but Airplay is a gaping hole in its feature set (which was supposed to be filled in early 2012). I'm not sure why the NADs, Marantzs, Denons, and Teacs of the world can produce streamers with Airplay on far cheaper units and yet it seems such a challenge for Naim.
Oh, well, maybe patience (waning) will pay off.

I agree that Naim should be able to update streamers with airplay. Maybe they are having license cost issues or Apple not willing to license this to them?
Streaming music from iPad or iPhone not useful to me but if could stream from Apple TV using Airplay be great )))

Stream FROM an Apple TV? I dont get it. The ATV is a streamer (of sorts). But it is not a server in any fashion.

If playing Netflix on Apple TV , would use Airplay on Naim ND5 XS to get audio portion only. I have 2 channel stereo system ( McIntosh tube preamplifier and solid state 2 channel power amplifier ) Airplay also useful for audio from MacBook Air
Guess I old fashioned not too use surround sound system. Optical input now being used for computer...

does airplay work that way?
Hi Patrick,
My Apple TV is connected to the television via HDMI and the DAC via optical. I can then use the Airplay on the iPad to listen to Spotify remotely or watch Youtube. However, I am more likely to use the Youtube functionality embedded in the Apple TV and Spotify sounds a lot better via USB from the iPad directly connected to the DAC.
