Do I need a Mac / PC

Posted by: N16SPS on 09 November 2013

Hi,

I'm interested in getting the ND5 XS so that I can listen to radio - internet stations. I know there are two options one with DAB/FM but do I need to connect to the ND with my mac to get internet radio or does it have it's own internal receiver?

Thanks

As long as your network/router is set up to receive the internet you should be able to tune in to i-radio.

Hi

The ND5 XS has a built in vTuner internet radio. Just connect it to your router, preferably by ethernet cable, or if circumstance don't allow, then WiFi. There are thousands of internet radio stations, and some that stream AAC 320 Kbps Hi Res music. (Radio Paradise) I have my UnitiServe connected to my Sky router. I'm listening to it now as I type this. Fantastic sound!

I also have an iMac, but don't use it as part of my Naim system, apart from occasionally controlling the UnitiServe, which I mainly do with my iPad.

Cheers

If all you require is Internet raido you may be better off using a UnitiQute, smaller and half the price and probably close in sound quality given the limitation of Internet Radio.

Just a thought.

Hi, as others have said, the benefit of using a Network streamer is that it doesn't need any other computer To use web radio. Connect to the internet and you are away.

The FM tuner in my SuperUniti is surprisingly good, and better than Hidef Internet radio on radio 3 and 4. You'd need a roof aerial of course, but it's nice to have the option. I don't know if the Qute's fm is as good, but I'd expect it to be the same module.
