Some people here are so much into vinyl that I think this is a good retirement project!
Looks like a scruffy version of the now dead Beanos that was near Surrey st market in Croydon.
A labour of love, not IMHO a money making venture.

Frankly, looking at the photo, I really don't see all that much vinyl. More newspapers & periodicals in baggies than anything else. Maybe it's just the camera angle.
This was featured on the local London news programme last night. I know the shop quite well. There are about 50,000 records. The shop is on two levels with vinyl in the basement. The owner wants to sell it to an enthusiast rather some corporate venture. I hope it survives.
Agreed Mista H, a labour of love.
A way to meet enthusiasts and have a chat and sell a few records.
But a profitable venture I doubt it sadly.
Here in my part of the world ALL of the record shops have gone.
people try but cannot meet the bills let alone make a living.
Many years we had a fantastic one which had amazing records. Sadly he could not sell the business. So it dies.
I hope he finds a buyer. Never been to his shop but I saw an interview with him and he genuinely seems to be a good chap. Good luck to him!
Have to say backfromoz the way people buy music these days compared to 10 years ago has changed a lot.
I now buy ALL my CDs online from one of three sources...Flea Bay....Amazon.....Play.com. One of these is always cheaper than any local record shop, and i dont even have to get out the armchair. A few clicks of the PC and postsy drops the Cd thru my letter box a few days later. I ditched LPs years ago.
Many years ago Beanos was a very busy shop covering 3 large floors, and i think towards the end the only busy part was the coffee shop on the top floor.

Slightly off topic but has my local Naim dealer in Croydon shut down ??
drove past at the weekend and it looks no more.

Maybe people bought all their hi-fi from the internet (using just a few clicks whilst sitting in their armchairs) 'where it was always cheaper' ?

Fantastic reply
Fortunately Reckless Records in Berwick St is still going (last time I looked). Must go up London again for another furtle.
So much more fun than sitting on the sofa glaring at the Amazon monster.

+1. Reckless is still going, as is Sister Ray, Sounds of the Universe and Record & Tape Exchange - so Berwick Street's definitely worth a visit.

50,000 records. Sounds as if it might rival your collection Steve .
Due to some space limitations and the fact there are a lot of records I'll never play again I had a clear out recently giving some to a friend and the rest to the guy who runs the market stall. He's been good with discounts over the years so I didn't accept anything for them. I'm now down to about 2-2,500 LPs, which my wife is happier with. It also gives me scope to buy more.
I think you may be thinking about the wrong record shop. This one is in Hanway Street and I am sure didn't have a basement the last time I was in there only a month or so ago! The records are behind the camera in the picture and there are usually quite a lot of them. Not the best condition but to be fair not that expensive. It is a long time since I bought something there despite my regular visits.
Dean Street and Reckless remains the best around Soho for general vinyl. There are a number of specialist shops which I cannot pretend to know enough about. Not my bag really. Reckless has had some very significant collections in of late but they do know their market! Bargains are few these days for me tho'.
