Heathrow heist?

Posted by: DrMark on 14 November 2013

I am flying to Europe (Italy) next month, and on my return several options were offered on my airline web site to go through London Heathrow.  The tax for simply going through the airport & changing planes was $409!!!!!!!!!!

Instead I will endure an 12 hour overnite layover in Dusseldorf for $70.  WTF is up with LHR?

Mark,

You should have posted this in the "Best Jokes" topic.

There have been times when I think I would have paid $409 NOT to transit through Heathrow.

You'll be much better off in Dusseldorf - worth booking a hotel for 12 hours I'd think, or at least the lounge.

"Your airline" is quoting you $409. Not Heathrow.

Book 4 months in advance instead of 1 month and you'll find prices are a lot cheaper.

You can get a return ticket from Manchester to HKG for under £500 in May, if you book now and that includes a change at Heathrow.

Thanks for the replies - I am flying on air miles, so all I pay is the airport taxes & fees.

It's just a $300+ difference from every other airport from which I could choose.

It is Air Passenger Duty increased by the previous administration.
