Ok just setup a Mac mini (headless) as a source to supernait, I'm trying to use various ipad apps to control it, which work fine whilst the mini is awake but once it's gone to sleep, I can't wake it. Can all you guys using a mini as a source please let me know how you have your mini setup and which apps do you use? Cheers

I dont let mine sleep. I have it power on and off at set intervals instead.

You could try in the preferences>energy saving to allow wake for network access, if thats checked then you might want to consider the router you are using, as good ones allow wake on lan protocols.

However all in all, even at full blast a mini barely uses any power, just have it fired up through the day switched off at night.

Ok guys, I've set the mini up to be on from 9 am till 10 pm, however what's happening now is that at 9am when mini turns it's self on, iTunes automatically starts and music starts blaring through the house, is there a way of stopping iTunes starting to play music when mini wakes up?

Strange - i'd take a look in the iTunes preferences to see what you have enabled. Mine just starts and doesn't play anything (not in front of the computer now so can't check my own preferences)

Couple of thing to check..

Under System Prefs > General is an option to "close windows when quitting an application" .. enable that, it will stop iTunes returning to its previous state on launch.

Under System Prefs > Users.. check the login items and remove iTunes if present, not the ituneshelper though, this will stop iTunes launching automatically on logon.

So if this close's iTunes and stops it from starting on its own when mac turns its self on at 9am, will the ipad remote be able to start it again? Or will I have to connect to tv, so I can see what I'm doing and go and open it manually ?

if you remove it from the login items, it won't launch on the Mac's start up so it would not be available to Remote on the iPad until you start it.

If you enable the "close windows when quitting" option under General prefs but leave it in login items, it should start on power up but not start to play anything until you tell it to. This is a global prefs setting so would also apply to all other Applications on the Mac.

Do you have it set to power down in the evening or go to sleep ? i just let my Mac/iTunes run all the time so its available for Remote, Plex and various Apple TVs when required and use Remote to stop/start  audio playback
