Naim UnitiQute File Problems

Posted by: Mr Paws on 15 November 2013

Hello to all.

a Naim UnitiQute landed at my door today and as I've owned a Naim Uniti before setting this little baby was very easy.

However, I've come across some problems trying to play some of my albums which are stored on a Netgear ReadyNas Duo.

Before the 'Qute' landed I used a Logitech Squeezebox which played the files with no issues at all. When ripping my cd's I used WAV and FLAC codecs with a couple of ALAC's in there too.

The Qute is playing the FLAC's ok so I presume the problem is with playing the WAV files. I've not had time to have a look at the files on my PC yet to see what I can do if anything.

I have approximately 350 albums so far ripped on onto the NAS drive.

any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance..

What board has the Qute got? If it is the early board (24/96?) it will not play the ALAC files unless transcoding on the fly if my fading memory serves. Not sure about the WAV but as this is Naim's preferred format I would be surprised if they were an issue.

Regards

Thanks for your your reply Neil.

The Qute is just over a year old serial number 325*** so it should play ALAC files ?

I'll have look on PC later and see whats up but I'm sure nearly 100% of the files I've ripped are either FLAC or WAV's .

Tell you what though what a superb sound this baby Naim produces even with Twenty Year odd old B&W speakers.

Cheers..

Yes, it is a lot of 'bang for your buck' and if you look on its limitations kindly, have the right speakers and don't want to bring the house down, it will be all you'll need. I have a UQ2.

Well this is going to sound weird but the Qute won't play WAV files from my NAS but will play WAV files from a memory stick !!

I'm at a loss to work this one out.

Any ideas chaps ?

Hi,
What server software are you running on the nas.some don't work well with wav files.

Hi,
Kinsky is the main one that springs to mind but I'm sure there are others that cause pronlems.

It may be the case that the WAV files do not possess (readable) IDv3 tags that the NAS can present in the content directory tree.

I originally ripped my CD's to my PC via dB Poweramp then the files transferred to my NAS, (it was quicker), some in WAV some in FLAC mainly as an experiment to hear any sonic differences between the two codecs With view to convert to either FLAC or WAV. Sounds a bit of a faff but at the time I was off work sick so had loads of time to play with.

I'm fairly new to streaming so learning all the time and sometimes struggling with all the techie stuff. What I can't get my head around though is the WAV files I have on my Memory Stick. Are the same files I'd ripped on my PC so I'm a bit confused to be honest.

I've decided I'm going to convert the WAV's to FLAC using dB Power-amp Batch Converter. Mind you it may be quicker if just re-rip the cd's .

It's certainly not WAV per se that's the problem. It copes with WAV files fine.

Try using foobar with the server plugin. Worked a treat for me, before I switched to a Mac
