Bloody Twonky! Help please!!!
Posted by: Moobs79 on 16 November 2013
Hi all
A week or two ago I posted that my Qute couldn't find my WD My Book Live NAS and got a lot of help which pointed to the fact that my Twonky server free trial must have ended. (Thanks to all who helped).
Simple to fix I thought.... We'll I purchased another code for it and entered it and hey presto very little has changed. Basically I can now see the NAS as an option on the Qute both through the iphone app and controller/front screen but when I select it it says the NAS is empty! There's definitely music on there, mostly FLAC but also AAC, MP3 and so on.
The Twonky forum is a waste of time, it won't even let me register!!!
Basically I'm fairly sure it's got to be an easy fix but I'm getting no where and I'm feeling a little emotional about the whole situation. Can anyone help?
Thanks to anyone who has the patience to assist...
Sorry, literally just got back from France (measuring up new property and meeting the locals) so no advancement from my end, in fact I'm going to need to post some streaming questions of my own, and questions on expat forum boards about just about everything building related.
I can confirm my version of Twonky has all the tickboxes ticked as sjbabbey mentions and differs from your screenshot by having just one option (/Public) listed under content location, which is ticked..
More relevant thoughts will surely come when I get the chance!

You are confusing the web screens I'm referring to. I'm not referring to the Twonky config webpage at IP address:900/config but to the WD MYBookLive's own webpage accessed by entering just its IP address in your browser.
In Your replies to Noobs79 you took him through the NAS Drive's system settings tabs one by one but for the "Media" tab you only said to make sure that twonky was enabled and note the version number. You should also have told him to click on the ">" next to "Twonky Service". This then shows a list of all the networked Media Players together with their MAC and IP addresses. To the left of each one is a tick box which allows you to block Twonky from streaming to that particular Media Player. From what Noobs79 has described I believe that his Qute has a tick against it in this list which is why his Qute can see the NAS drive (as Twonky is enabled) but the Qute says it is "Empty" because the Qute is "blocked". If Noobs97 unticks the box next to his Qute it should then see the individual folders in his shared folder on the WD MyBookLive.
Once Noobs79 is happy that the Qute is seeing the content of his WD MyBookLive I would recommend that he changes his Twonky config back to "Advanced Navigation" so he can search the content via Artist, Album etc.

Yes you are quite correct I missed that!
On the Block list of mine they are all unticked (except for the bottom entry "-/-", which is the same entry not enabled [unticked] in TwonkyMediaServer Media Receivers page.
I'm glad we're on the same page.
I just hope that this solves Noob79's problem.
Update time!
So I've tried a couple of things including re-installing Twonky which now gives me a version 7.2, typing in the route address for the NAS and making sure the Qute was 'allowed' to stream according to the device page on 'my computer'.
None of it helped.
Then I went back on to the NAS dashboard and went to Media and whilst meaning to click on the 'i' icon next to re-build database accidentally clicked re-build. After a couple of moments of panic, not sure what I was doing I let it do it's' thing and after about an hour hey presto... IT WORKED!!!
Bugger me that was trying!
Now where in the Media section it says Status it also has a heading for Music, Pictures and Videos which details the number of files in each section.
The Qute works perfectly again, as long as n-Stream has Upnp compatibility mode set to on, when it's off for some reason if I click on a song or album it links to a different song or album. Weird but not the end of the world, if anyone has any thoughts feel free to share but it's nothing to much to worry about.
In short if your Twonky/WD MyBookLive isn't working a good start would be to re-build the database!
Thanks again to everyone, especially Haffler3o for their help. And as sheffieldgraham says you're what makes this forum great!
Long live Naim!!!

Excellent!
Now to the UPNP compatibility issue, believe me it works best with it OFF, so if you clear the cache, kill the app., restart the app, wait a bit, change to no UPNP, then the app. should work well and remain working until you get a power spike or something.. I call the 2 modes clunky and slick mode.
